“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
November 17: Grzegorz
November 18: Aniela, Cieszymysł, Klaudyna, Roman, Tomasz
November 19: Elżbieta, Mironiega, Paweł, Seweryn

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRAYING OF THE ROSARY – Every Wednesday before the 4 p.m. Mass (beginning at approximately 3:35 p.m.).

CATECHISM AND POLISH CULTURAL CLASS, for school-age children, led by Krista Ann Starzomski, downstairs after Mass.

PLEASE NOTE: Short meeting after Mass today (Nov. 10) for the Altar Society November volunteers.

ON THE OCCASION OF THE UPCOMING FEAST OF ST. CECILIA (NOV. 22) WE SALUTE OUR CHOIR – STO LAT!: St. Cecilia, martyred around the year 230 in Rome because of her Christian faith, sang to God as she lay dying. She is the patron saint of the St. Mary’s Polish Parish Choir and of church music. It was Father Leo O’Connell who began calling our choir after St. Cecilia. The Choir of St. Mary’s Polish Parish, under the direction of Mary Pierrynowski, is Cape Breton’s only Polish choir, a “living treasure.” Thank you for being such dedicated ambassadors for our parish. Hymns are carefully chosen for each feast day and time of year. At each Mass there is at least one hymn dedicated to Blessed Virgin Mary. A special acknowledgment to the choir for all its contributions to this year’s Centenary events, including the unforgettable concert with the Men of the Deeps. As one of our Centenary projects, we restored the exterior sound system to allow some of the choir’s hymns to project from the church before Mass and on special occasions. There has been positive feedback on this. Bóg zapłać!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: Filled shoeboxes are still being accepted today. Thank you for your participation! If you have any questions, please speak with Suzanne Campbell (270-2859).

ADVENT HOLY HOURS:
During the Sundays of Advent we will be holding afternoon Holy Hours from 2-3 pm.
Dec. 1st - St. Mary’s Polish Parish
Dec. 8th - Holy Redeemer Parish
Dec. 15th - St. Mary’s Polish Parish
Dec. 22nd - Holy Redeemer Parish
This Holy Hour will be offered for your family intentions and for vocations to the Priesthood. It will consist of hymns, Scripture readings, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Adoration and Benediction. There will also be time prior for confessions. Please plan on joining us in Prayer and Worship.

AN APPEAL FOR FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS: Several of our parishioners are assisting two seniors who are in urgent need of a safe and heated home. They are moving into a home owned by the Housing Authority just a few steps from our church. Anyone who can contribute some furniture or household items, please speak with Anna Wesolkowska, Ursula Melski, Janina MacCormack, or Tom Urbaniak. At this point, we are still appealing in particular for an additional bed and mattress, a living-room chair or couch, and kitchen utensils. Many thanks for any assistance with this emergency situation.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR – ST. MARY’S POLISH PARISH CELEBRATION OF ST. NICHOLAS DAY -- POLISH VILLAGE HALL – THE AFTERNOON OF SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8. We will feature some of our very special Polish Christmas customs. More details in next week’s bulletin.

NEW DISPLAY STAND FOR THE BREAD AND SALT PRESENTED BY OUR PARISH TO BLESSED POPE JOHN PAUL II: Frank Starzomski and carpenter Marc Butot worked on this as a service to the parish, and there was no charge for labour. The idea is that this would be permanently displayed in the church. This artifact has great meaning to everyone in the parish, so please take a look at where it is now (near the stairs to the choir) and let any member of the Rada if you are happy with this location or would prefer a different one, and if you think there should be any changes/additions to the design of the display.

RECLAIMING ITEMS FROM THE PARISH CENTENARY EXHIBIT (OR ALLOWING THEM TO REMAIN FOR A LONG-TERM DISPLAY): Items that have not been claimed are being transferred to the hall’s downstairs back room for an eventual longer-term exhibit profiling our parish and our heritage. Any items unclaimed by December 8th we will assume can be utilized in this longer-term exhibit. Thank you to everyone who has allowed items to remain!

A GREAT GIFT! Gift Certificates for the Polish Village Hall: For the first time, you can give a gift certificate that can be redeemed by the recipient for a hall rental (upstairs or downstairs). Both areas have been totally refreshed, and there are facilities for large events and small gatherings/receptions. So please consider giving one to friends or family, or local organizations that may be planning parties and events. The certificate is on card stock, artfully designed. If you would like to purchase one, please speak with Bernie LaRusic.

WELCOMING PEOPLE (BACK) TO CHURCH - DEADLINE FOR SUGGESTED NAMES EXTENDED UNTIL TODAY: As part of our outreach, letters of welcome and introduction from Father Paul will be sent within the next two weeks to former parishioners or people who might wish to join us. We are blessed to have a warm and welcoming parish, journeying together in faith and service, with a unique identity and a living heritage, where people genuinely care about each other. If you know someone who might appreciate a letter, please share by the end of the day today, his or her name (and mailing address if possible) with Marjorie Ardelli, Secretary of the Rada -- 794-2910; sheep@syd.eastlink.ca

PARISH CENTENARY COOKBOOKS, PRZEZ POKOLENIA BOOKS, AND COMMEMORATIVE T-SHIRTS ARE STILL FOR SALE: Please speak with Shauna McKay.

SOLIDARITY WITH OUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS IN THE PHILIPPINES: Development and Peace and the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) have launched a joint appeal for relief efforts in response to Typhoon Haiyan. Development and Peace is working with Caritas Philippines-NASSA, as well as other members of the Caritas network, to respond to this crisis. In a letter addressed to the Bishops of Canada, the Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau and President of the CCCB, asked that a special national collection take place before December 9th, the deadline for donations to be matched by the Government of Canada. “Our hearts go out to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines … Pope Francis invited us to pray publicly and privately for the many who have lost their lives or have been affected by this terrible tragedy and to come to their assistance,” said Most Reverend Durocher in his letter. In the meantime, donations to Development and Peace – designated Philippines Relief and mentioning your affiliation with our parish -- can be sent to: Development and Peace, 1425 René-Lévesque Blvd.W, 3rd fl., Montreal  H3G 1T7

THE RENOVATED AND REFURBISHED POLISH VILLAGE HALL is a comfortable, well appointed, modernized venue for events large and small. Please consider renting the hall for your events. Please call 564-8494.

POST-COMMUNION HYMN IN HONOUR OF ST. CECILIA

W chwale Bożej na niebiosach
Płyną hymny dziękczynienia,
Dusze świętych w zgodnych głosach,
Wraz z Cecylią nucą pienia!

Serce Bogu poślubione
Anioł z niebios strzegł w czystości.
Przez Cecylię nawrócone
Weszły dusze w próg wieczności.

Dusze, zmyte krwią dla wiary
Białych lilij tworzą wieńce.
Niosą Bogu z serc ofiary
Grona dziewic i młodzieńce.

W szczęściu nieba, u stóp Boga
Śpiewa zastęp dusz przeczystych,
Za Cecylią pewna droga
Do przybytków wiekuistych

In the glory of God in the heavens
Flow hymns of thanksgiving,
The souls of the saints in heavenly accord,
Together with Cecilia rise and intone!

Heart of God sanctified
An angel from heaven and pure.
By Cecilia converted
souls entered the threshold of eternity.

Souls cleansed for the faith
White lilies formed into wreaths
Bring to God your hearts and offerings
Come forward, young women and men.

In the happiness of heaven, at the feet of God
Sings a group of immaculate souls,
With Cecilia, the road is a certain one
To dwell in eternal salvation
