“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
August 25: Grzegorz, Luiza, Michał, Sieciesław
August 26: Dobroniega, Joanna, Konstanty, Maksym, Maria
August 27: Cezary, Józef, Monika, Małgorzata, Teodor
August 28: Adelina, Aleksander, Aleksy, Augustyn, Patrycja, Sobiesław, Stronisław
August 29: Gita, Jan, Racibor, Sabina
August 30: Częstowoj, Miron, Rebeka, Róża, Szczęsna, Szczęsny

JASNA GÓRA MONESTARY AND OUR LADY OF CZĘSTOCHOWA: The monestary was established in 1392 by Pauline monks from Hungary and has been Poland’s most famous place of pilgrimage for centuries. “Jasna Góra” literally means “Luminous Mount.” The icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa is present here. On June 4, 1979, Pope John Paul II remarked:  “The Poles are accustomed to link with this place, this shrine, the many happenings of their lives: the various joyful or sad moments, especially the solemn, decisive moments, the occasions of responsibility, such as the choice of the direction for one's life, the choice of one's vocation, the birth of one's children, the final school examinations, and so many other occasions. They are accustomed to come with their problems to Jasna Góra to speak of them with their heavenly Mother, who not only has her image here, one of the best known and most venerated pictures of her in the world, but is specially present here.”

TODAY’S OPENING HYMN – in honour of tomorrow’s Feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa

Witaj, Jutrzenko Rano Powstająca
Witaj, Jutrzenko rano powstająca,
Śliczna jak miesiąc, jak słońce świecąca.
Ty świecisz mile światu w Częstochowie,
Gdzie czołem biją świata monarchowie.

Tobie koronę z gwiazd dwunastu dano,
Świata wszystkiego Panią Cię nazwano
Na Jasnej Górze jaśniejesz nad słońce.
Tu lud upada do nóg swej Patronce.

Pocieszycielko ludzi utrapionych,
Do Ciebie, Panno, w nędzach niezliczonych
Lud się ucieka i prosi serdecznie,
By z Twej przyczyny życie wiódł bezpiecznie.
Greetings, the dawn of the new morning
Resplendent like a month of sunshine.
You illuminate the world from Czestochowa
Where even monarchs of the world bow down.

To you was bestowed a crown of twelve stars,
The world’s great titles are given to you
On Jasna Gora you shine like the son.
The people kneel before their patroness.

Comforter of the afflicted people,
To you, O Lady, we come in suffering
We hasten to you and appeal sincerely,
For your intercession, for life and safety.
