OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

BLESSINGS to all on Canada Day weekend. Prayers for our country and all its people and for continued peace and goodwill.

PASSING ALONG THANKS FROM OUR VISITORS LAST WEEK: The tour group, which joined us for Mass, pączki and refreshments, wanted to express sincere gratitude for the friendliness, warmth and hospitality they experienced in our parish. God bless you

NEXT SUNDAY: Special prayers and blessings related to one of our parish feast days. The anniversary of the re-opening of our church in 2016 is a designated parish feast day. It will be eight years since our church re-opened and was blessed (the rebuilding still continued for some time, including the Sala).

AFTER MASS IN TWO WEEKS: Everyone will be invited to the Sala here in the church for a short after-Mass gathering (July 14). We will offer popsicles of different flavours. It will be a little “popsicle party”. It’s sponsored by Alison Etter’s family in her memory – eighth wedding anniversary. Alison loved going out for popsicles and ice cream on her wedding anniversary. So, this year, to honour Alison’s spirit of Christian hospitality, we’ll share popsicles and friendship with her communities. During the short gathering after Mass on the 14th, we’ll also have a three-minute Polish pop-up tutorial of Polish words related to flavours of ice cream and popsicles.

THEME FOR THIS YEAR’S NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH (September) will be “Special Walks.” Although there will be a wide range of activities, there will be some particular emphasis on walking tours, nature-language hikes (to learn some Polish words), cemetery visits, site visits and more. We will also feature some of the work students did to propose a future Galicia Brook walkway near the church.

ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP: Everyone is invited to consider becoming a member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. The Society owns and operates the Polish Village Hall and is involved in a number of cultural and service projects. Founded in 1909, the Society is the oldest Polish community organization in Canada. In recognition of this, the Polish Village Hall is an officially designated heritage landmark. The Society has been working on a very positive hall revitalization project and recently developed the Twin City Pocket Park. Membership is $30 per year. Only members who are on the board are required to attend meetings. Other members participate in activities as they wish and can run for the board and vote at annual general meetings. As per recent correspondence with members, the AGM will take place as a lunchtime gathering (marking the 115th anniversary of the Society) either on September 13 or September 20 (both are Fridays). The date will be confirmed.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Thanks so much for contributing any non-perishable items at the entrance of the church

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for continued support. We have been supporting the efforts of our sister city, Wałbrzych, Poland, which has been caring for
thousands of refugees plus the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: Marking four years already! The Coast Radio FM 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week, Marjorie Ardelli will discuss Polish legends about dragons.
We’re looking for sponsors and volunteers for the radio segments. It’s $100 for a whole week to sponsor. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments). If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

COLLECTION FOR June 23: $957.45. Thank you kindly to all donors and contributors for your generosity and help for the work of our parish.

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : Donations may be made during weekly Sunday Mass collection. Also, please feel free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/.
