OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
BOŻE CIAŁO / CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY. As usual, we will follow the special Polish customs and process with the Blessed Sacrament (weather permitting) to an outdoor altar beside the grotto on the parish grounds and also bless the food garden for the coming year.Thank you to Ursula for her help preparing it! This feast day was instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264. It has had a special significance in Polish communities as a manifestation of faith, spirituality and community during times of occupation and oppression.
LUNCH AFTER MASS NEXT SUNDAY: June 9, Please bring a dish to share if you can.
THEME FOR THIS YEAR’S NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH (SEPTEMBER) will be “Special Walks.” Although there will be a wide range of activities, there will be some particular emphasis on walking tours, nature-language hikes (to learn some Polish words), cemetery visits, site visits and more. We will also feature some of the work students did to propose a future Galicia Brook walkway near the church.
ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP: Everyone is invited to consider becoming a member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. The Society owns and operates the Polish Village Hall and is involved in a number of cultural and service projects. Founded in 1909, the Society is the oldest Polish community organization in Canada. In recognition of this, the Polish Village Hall is an officially designated heritage landmark. The Society has been working on a very positive hall revitalization project and recently developed the Twin City Pocket Park. Membership is $30 per year. Only members who are on the board are required to attend meetings. Other members participate in activities as they wish and can run for the board and vote at annual general meetings. A membership form is attached to the paper version of the bulletin distributed before Mass. The AGM this year will be at 7:00pm on Sunday, June 23.
FOOD CUPBOARD: Thanks so much for contributing any non-perishable items at the entrance of the church
UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN
ASSISTANCE: Thank you for continued
support. We have been supporting the
efforts of our sister city, Wałbrzych,
Poland, which has been caring for
thousands of refugees plus the Canadian
Catholic Organization for Development
and Peace and the Catholic Near East
Welfare Association
OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: Marking four years already! The Coast Radio FM 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week Victoria Shulga will discuss the Kicia Kocia series of Polish children's books, which have become very popular. Some of them are translated into English as the “Kitty Kotty” series. The series offers many practical lessons about different places and life situations. This segment is dedicated to Bernie LaRusic on the occasion of his birthday this past week.
We’re looking for sponsors and volunteers for the radio segments. It’s $100 for a whole week to sponsor. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments). If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
