Uroczystość Najświętszego Ciała i Krwi Pańskiej / CORPUS CHRISTI: The whole Church marks Corpus Christi, emphasizing the joy of the institution of the Eucharist. In Poland, it has special significance as a major religious and public holiday. The first Corpus Christi procession was held in 1320 in Krakow, and colourful processions with the Blessed Sacrament and various temporary altars are now held in every city and town in the country. These are public manifestations of faith. During times of occupation and later during the Communist period, the faithful sometimes took great personal risks to participate in Boże Ciało ceremonies.

“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name. Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
June 2: Eugeniusz, Maria, Marianna, Mikołaj, Piotr, Racisław
June 3: Konstantyn, Leszek, Paula, Tamara
June 4: Franciszek, Gościmił, Karol

SOUND SYSTEM IN THE CHURCH: Last week, our sound system/speakers were making some interrupting noises. The system seemed fine on Wednesday, but sound expert Blaine Aitkens will be coming to the church this week to examine the system. We hope there will be no serious problems today. Thank you for your kind patience.
THANK YOU to Ursula Melski and Jancia MacCormack for their great work on our outdoor grotto this week!

The Pope's general prayer intention for June is: “That a culture of dialogue, listening, and mutual respect may prevail among peoples.” His mission intention is: “That where secularization is strongest, Christian communities may effectively promote a new evangelization.” Pope Francis will be presiding today – Corpus Christi Sunday -- as churches around the world participate (many of them simultaneously) in the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. In his audience on Wednesday, May 29, Pope Francis underlined the notion of parishes being a family and being part of a universal family: “Today, let us pledge ourselves to renewing our love for the Church and to letting her be God’s true family, where everyone feels welcomed, understood and loved.”
