Szczęśliwego dnia ojca! Happy Father’s Day!

TR AVEL GROUP: Father Rich is expected to be in Sydney this coming Thursday or Friday (June 22 or 23). The Poland trip he is leading departs the following week. Father Rich would like to meet with the travellers Friday evening (June 23) at 6:30pm in the O’Connell House (glebe house).

POGORIA POLISH FOLK ENSEMBLE REHEARSAL: After Mass in the Polish Village Hall.

LOOKING AHEAD TOWARD OUR 110th ANNIVERSARY: The Rada had a good discussion about some upcoming events. We would like to focus on our anniversary on the Sunday closest to our parish feast day. So, that will be Sunday, September 10 with a special Mass followed by gathering at the Polish Village Hall. (The Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble displays will be up at the same time as part of NS Polish Heritage Month.) We would also like to ask everyone to kindly set aside Saturday, September 23. We will have a parish retreat in Gabarus. We will reflect on our history and have a conversation on where God might be leading us in the years ahead. We will then proceed to the Gabarus lighthouse for the unveiling of the new Copernicus sundial (to mark the famous Polish astronomer’s 550th birthday). We think it will be very meaningful for as many of us as possible to come together in that way.

HOUSING CHALLENGES IN OUR COMMUNITY: Recruiting a core of volunteers from local churches for a time-limited volunteer pilot project to accompany students in their meetings with landlords. Please speak with Tom Urbaniak (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca).

2023-2024 MEMBERSHIP IN THE ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY: A warm welcome to join the Society. Membership is $30 per year and is open to anyone with an interest in Polish culture and heritage in Cape Breton. Only members elected to the board have to attend monthly meetings. Other members participate in projects, meetings and activities as they wish or are able. A membership form is attached to the May 28th bulletin. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY will take place by Zoom (you can join by computer or telephone) on Sunday, June 25, at 7:00pm. The meeting will start with a little presentation about twin city Wałbrzych and the CBU summer school that will be happening at that very time. All members of the Society are welcome to take part and vote. If you are not a member of the Society and would like to be, you are most welcome. Please see the note above about membership.

FUND-RAISING FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: We are using all the funds raised to support three charities that are directly helping refugees and displaced people either within Ukraine itself or who have fled to Poland. Our largest chunk of support has been going to our sister city Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via the CBRM). We are also supporting Caritas efforts on the ground (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. We have special envelopes (marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance”) at the back of the church if you are considering making a contribution. Thank you for your support in the midst of all the suffering caused by this terrible invasion.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. There is a collection box at the entrance to the church. We try to fill the Food Cupboard after each Sunday Mass. Thank you so much!

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be the Polish word “szkoda” meaning too bad with guest Maura Lea Morykot.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society.
