OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
UNVEILING OF BENCH: After Mass today, we will have the blessing of a bench in the Twin City Pocket Park (Victoria Road and Franklin St, one block from the church), in memory of Jack, the great grandson of Peggy Ryba, who passed away when he was just a few days old. Wieczny odpoczynek racz Mu dać, Panie. Thank you to the family for its support. The bench is close to the sidewalk, so if the grass is very wet we should be able to stay quite dry!
PARISH LUNCH FOLLOWING THE MASS AND BLESSING TODAY: Everyone is welcome. The lunch will be here in the church in Sala 1050. We will return to the church after the blessing. Thanks to everyone who was able to bring something to share at the lunch. Thanks, Wayne, for doing the coffee and tea today.
POLISH CAFE: Tomorrow, Monday, June 5, at 11:00am (until 1:00pm), we will have a free Polish Café at the Polish Village Hall with a fun, short language session “Polish Hospitality for Beginners.” It will also be an opportunity for students who will be going to CBU’s summer school in Walbrzych to meet members of our local Polish community. Everyone is welcome. We’re looking for a few volunteers to bring a dish to share. (We can offer a small gift of gratitude to anyone who can assist with this – a free copy of a new book – part of the Tompkins Institute series -- that is being released at the café to be given to students – and volunteers. The book includes, among other things, essays on Polonia-related topics, Cape Breton community development, and the church and community development. The book is called In the Public Square: A Citizen’s Reader.
NEXT WEEK IS BOŻE CIAŁO / CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY: Weather permitting, we will attempt to have a blessing at the parish grotto. Trimming and spring cleaning at the grotto and food garden will take place this week.
PRAYERS FOR PEOPLE IN THE HOSPITAL: Steve Sokolowski is still at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and is gradually improving. Jerry Pocius’s mother in Scranton, Pennsylvania, is in the hospital following a fall at her nursing home. Safe travels to Jerry who will be heading to Scranton this coming week.
HOUSING CHALLENGES IN OUR COMMUNITY: Recruiting a core of volunteers from local churches for a time-limited volunteer pilot project to accompany students in their meetings with landlords. Please speak with Tom Urbaniak (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca).
2023-2024 MEMBERSHIP IN THE ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY: A warm welcome to join the Society. Membership is $30 per year and is open to anyone with an interest in Polish culture and heritage in Cape Breton. Only members elected to the board have to attend monthly meetings. Other members participate in projects, meetings and activities as they wish or are able. A membership form is attached to last week's bulletin. Or you can instantly fill out a membership form on-line by copy/pasting the following: https://forms.gle/CwgZJygj7SFGFeHJ6
FUND-RAISING FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: We are using all the funds raised to support three charities that are directly helping refugees and displaced people either within Ukraine itself or who have fled to Poland. Our largest chunk of support has been going to our sister city Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via the CBRM). We are also supporting Caritas efforts on the ground (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. We have special envelopes (marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance”) at the back of the church if you are considering making a contribution. Thank you for your support in the midst of all the suffering caused by this terrible invasion.
VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each
FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. There is a collection box at the entrance to the church. We try to fill the Food Cupboard after each Sunday Mass. Thank you so much!
OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be “Gofry” Polish waffles. Thank you to Ursula Melski for lending her voice. This segment is dedicated to the memory of the late Adele Kokoszka Young.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
COLLECTION FOR MAY 28: $522.60 including $65.00 for Ukrainian relief. Sincere thanks! Bόg zapłać!
