OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

STO LAT! Very best wishes to Steve Melnick on his 94th birthday tomorrow (December 5). Steve is a stalwart elder in our parish and a Life Member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. He remains connected to all our work, and we are truly grateful for him. Z Bogiem, Steve! Wszystkiego dobrego!

VISIT OF ŚWIĘTY MIKOŁAJ (ST. NICHOLAS): Today after Mass in the Sala 1050 (hall attached to the church). He will have small presents for children. Everyone is welcome. We will honour some of the Polish traditions around the Feast Day of St. Nicholas. Święty Mikołaj will be dressed in his traditional bishop’s attire.

LUNCH AFTER MASS TODAY DURING THE ŚWIĘTY MIKOŁAJ VISIT: If you can bring a dish, please send a note or make an advance call to Tom Urbaniak (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca; 902-563-1226). Lots of gratitude! In the new year, in consultation with fellow parishioners, we will get back into a rotation system for dish preparation for monthly lunches. But for this one, thank you to anyone who can notify of their ability to volunteer.

LOOKING AHEAD TO MASS FOR SHUT-INS: Everyone is welcome. There is no charge. Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered to bring a dish this month. Thanks to Bob Lewandowski for playing kolędy on the piano in the Sala during the lunch.

OPŁATEK AND POLISH CHRISTMAS CARDS will be available during the lunch after Mass. On the same table will also be Polish soup mixes for Christmas. Free-will offering for the above items with proceeds to St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society for the Polish Village Revitalization project, which is currently underway. Many thanks.

NEW YEAR’S EVE TICKETS will be available during the lunch after Mass. Polish Village Hall 9:00pm to 1:00am on New Year’s Eve. Tickets just $15 and includes a light meal. DJ Robin Krszwda. This is always a popular event and it’s back this year!

LOOKING AHEAD TO MASS FOR SHUT-INS: Our parish will be featured in the recording to take place on Saturday, December 17, at 10:30am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church. The producers are relying on us to provide a “congregation” and fill the roles for the televising. So grateful if you could put this on your calendar. This is a chance for us to share a little bit of our parish and our customs and language with the country on CTV. If anyone has traditional attire or a Cape Breton Polish tartan scarf or St Michael’s jacket, you are kindly invited to wear it for the screening.

OLIVER’S BAPTISM – A WELCOME TO FELLOW PARISHIONERS: (A Note from Tom and Alison): Oliver (“Oluś”) will be baptized next Sunday, December 11. He will be baptized by his mom (who is a minister). It will be at Warden United Church, 44 Fifth Street, Glace Bay, next Sunday – Gaudete Sunday (evoking joy) -- at 11:30am. We would like to extend a warm welcome to join us if you are free at that time. A small, informal reception will follow right after the service, also at Warden United. (Prayers and best wishes only.) We are truly grateful for the wonderful warmth and kindness of everyone at St. Mary’s Polish Parish for welcoming Oliver into the parish community. Oluś is grateful too as you can tell by his smiles! May God bless you for your friendship. Sincerely, Tom and Alison

ALTAR SOCIETY: Thank you to Ursula and Eileen for having been our November designated volunteers. And thank you to Janet and Evelyn for December!

HAND-MADE DISH CLOTHS – FUNDRAISER FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: at the back of the church. These beautiful unique dishcloths have been handmade by Dee-Dee (Yurczyszyn) Jackson and her sister Brenda Yurczyszyn and were donated to us (via Marjorie Ardelli) for the Ukrainian humanitarian fund. Available small size 2 for $5, large size $3 each.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be the Polish traditions around Nativity scenes (szopki). This is a sung segment with a Polish carol (“Do Szopy …). Guest for this segment is Alison Etter. Thank you to the Markotich family for sponsoring this week’s segment.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PLEASE NOTE: We will be recording another series of radio segments this coming Friday. If you would like to volunteer your voice, please let Tom Urbaniak know. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

COLLECTION FOR NOVEMBER 27: $645.00. Many thanks, everyone, for your kindness and generosity!

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. PIEŚNI / HYMNS:

Entrance: (about the angel Gabriel)
1. Archanioł Boży Gabriel, Posłan do Panny Maryi, Z Majestatu Trójcy Świętej, Tak sprawował poselstwo k`Niej Zdrowaś, Panno, łaskiś pełna, Pan jest z Tobą, to rzecz pewna.
2. Panna się wielce zdumiała z poselstwa, które słyszała. Pokorniuchno się skłoniła; jako Panna wstrzemięźliwa zasmuciła się z tej mowy, nic nie rzekła Aniołowi.

Offertory: (about a grateful voice from heaven)
1. Głos wdzięczny z nieba wychodzi, Gwiazdę k`nam nową wywodzi, Która rozświeca ciemności, I odkrywa nasze złości.
2. Z różdżki Jesse kwiat zakwita, który zbawieniem świat wita; Pan Bóg zesłał Syna swego, przed wieki narodzonego.

Communion: (about Jesus being present in the host) - choir

Post-Communion: (This hymn evokes the image of Mary protecting and comforting children symbolizing Mary’s love for us all)
Idźmy, tulmy się jak dziatki, Do Serca Maryi Matki. Czy nas nęka życia trud, czy to winy czarny brud! Idźmy, idźmy ufnym krokiem, z rzewnym sercem, łzawym okiem: to serca zna dzieci głos, odwróci bolesny cios.

Recessional: (Thus the Lord will Come) – another special hymn for Advent
Oto Pan Bóg przyjdzie Z rzeszą Świętych nam przybędzie, Światłość wielka w dzień ów będzie. Alleluja! Alleluja

Ojcze Nasz (Our Father) – to be sung today.

Życzymy błogosławionego tygodnia / Wishing you a blessed week!
