OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
GRATULACJE! Congratulations to Robert Schella and the whole family on the birth of Robert’s grandson, Isaac James! God bless baby Isaac and everyone!
STO LAT! Best wishes and many blessings to Bernie Paruch on his birthday!
VISIT OF ŚWIĘTY MIKOŁAJ (ST. NICHOLAS): next Sunday after Mass, close to his feast day. He will have small presents for children. Everyone is welcome. We will honour some of the Polish traditions around the Feast Day of St. Nicholas. Święty Mikołaj will be dressed in his traditional bishop’s attire.
LUNCH AFTER MASS NEXT SUNDAY DURING THE ŚWIĘTY MIKOŁAJ VISIT: If you can bring a dish, please send a note or make an advance call to Tom Urbaniak (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca; 902-563-1226). Lots of gratitude! In the new year, in consultation with fellow parishioners, we will get back into a rotation system for dish preparation for monthly lunches. But for this one, thank you to anyone who can notify of their ability to volunteer.
LOOKING AHEAD TO MASS FOR SHUT-INS: Our parish will be featured in the recording to take place on Saturday, December 17, at 10:30am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church. The producers are relying on us to provide a “congregation” and fill the roles for the televising. So grateful if you could put this on your calendar. This is a chance for us to share a little bit of our parish and our customs and language with the country on CTV. If anyone has traditional attire or a Cape Breton Polish tartan scarf or St Michael’s jacket, you are kindly invited to wear it for the screening.
THIS PAST THURSDAY’S SESSION: Thank you for the very positive Zoom session on Thursday on our region’s section of the future Canadian Polish Heritage Trail and on the green energy projects including solar at the Polish Village Hall. Happy to share the PowerPoints with anyone.
ALTAR SOCIETY: Thank you to Ursula and Eileen for being our November designated volunteers. And thank you to Janet and Evelyn for December!
HAND-MADE DISH CLOTHS – FUNDRAISER FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: at the back of the church. These beautiful unique dishcloths have been handmade by Dee-Dee (Yurczyszyn) Jackson and her sister Brenda Yurczyszyn and were donated to us (via Marjorie Ardelli) for the Ukrainian humanitarian fund. Available small size 2 for $5, large size $3 each.
VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each
FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.
OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be Śliwki Polish plum chocolates. Many thanks to Jo-Ann Dziubek MacDonald for lending her voice this week and to Sixty Minute Signs for sponsoring this week’s segment.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. A NOTE FROM FATHER RICH: Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary’s, This Sunday we begin the new liturgical calendar church year of 2023. We begin with the short season of Advent. Advent (Adventus) is the term that means preparation for a coming. In this case, we prepare to observe and celebrate the First Coming of Christ into the world (Nativity or Incarnation) at Christmas. However, we need also to focus and remember the Second Coming of Christ when He will judge the living and the dead at the end of time. Jesus will also come at our own personal end of the world at the end of our life. We should be aware that this can come at any time! Therefore we need always to be prepared for the Coming of Christ our Saviour! I am writing this column on Thanksgiving Day in the United States. This morning I concelebrated Mass with two brother priests that I live with when in Las Vegas. We had a good crowd of at least 300 people in church. Thanksgiving Day is more like a holyday in Catholic and Protestant churches as well as of course a national holiday. I look forward to my return to Cape Breton to be with you for the second half of Advent and then the Christmastide period through New Year and the Epiphany Feast (Three Kings). I will offer the opportunity to restore our Polish “Kolęda” visits with pastoral visits to parishioners and blessing of homes and families after the Epiphany. Bishop Wayne Joseph Kirkpatrick has accepted my invitation to make a pastoral visit to our parish on Sunday, January 15th and preside at Mass followed by our annual parish “Oplatek” celebration after Mass. I am most grateful for the services of Father Evo DiPierro acting as administrator and celebrating Sunday and Wednesday Masses in my absence. Have a blessed beginning of Advent ---Father Rich

PIEŚNI / HYMNS:
Entrance: (about the angel Gabriel)
1. Archanioł Boży Gabriel, Posłan do Panny Maryi, Z Majestatu Trójcy Świętej, Tak sprawował poselstwo k`Niej Zdrowaś, Panno, łaskiś pełna, Pan jest z Tobą, to rzecz pewna.
2. Panna się wielce zdumiała z poselstwa, które słyszała. Pokorniuchno się skłoniła; jako Panna wstrzemięźliwa zasmuciła się z tej mowy, nic nie rzekła Aniołowi.
3. Ale poseł z wysokości, napełnion Boskiej mądrości, rzekł Jej: Nie bój się Maryjo, najszczęśliwszaś, Panno miła, znalazłaś łaskę u Pana, oto poczniesz Jego Syna.
Offertory: (about a grateful voice from heaven)
1. Głos wdzięczny z nieba wychodzi, Gwiazdę k`nam nową wywodzi, Która rozświeca ciemności, I odkrywa nasze złości.
2. Z różdżki Jesse kwiat zakwita, który zbawieniem świat wita; Pan Bóg zesłał Syna swego, przed wieki narodzonego.
Communion: (about Jesus being present in the host) - choir
1. O mój Jezu w Hostii skryty, Na kolanach wielbię Cię. W postać chleba Tyś spowity, Bóstwo Twoje kryje się. Ty Co rządzisz całym światem, Me zbawienie w ręku masz; Tu przed Twoim Majestatem Aniołowie kryją twarz.
2. O światłości przysłoniona, Rzuć mi Twój promienny blask. O dobroci nieskończona, Otwórz dla nas skarby łask. Chlebie życia przeobfity, Nasyć duszy mojej głód. Boski ogniu tu zakryty, Rozgrzej serca mego chłód
Post-Communion: (about welcoming the Blessed Virgin Mary)
Witaj Święta i poczęta niepokalanie! Maryja śliczna lilija, nasze kochanie; Witaj czysta Panienko, Najjaśniejsza Jutrzenko, Witaj święta, w niebo wzięta, Niepokalana.
Swą pięknością, niewinnością, w niebie górujesz; W dostojeństwie i Panieństwie wszystkie celujesz; W pierwszym Panno momencie, Święte twoje poczęcie, Jaśniejące jako słońce, Niepokalanie
Recessional: (Thus the Lord will Come) – another special hymn for Advent
Oto Pan Bóg przyjdzie Z rzeszą Świętych nam przybędzie, Światłość wielka w dzień ów będzie. Alleluja! Alleluja
Życzymy błogosławionego tygodnia / Wishing you a blessed week!
