Polish Heritage Month is going well!
POLISH TAKE-OUT DINNERS were postponed due to the hurricane. New date: Saturday, October 1, 11:00am to 1:00pm. If you cannot make it on the new day and would like a refund, please call 902-563- 1226. There are some Polish dinner tickets available. Stephanie Black will have them after Mass or please call 902-563-1226.

PUBLIC INFORMATION SESSION FOR SUMMER SCHOOL EXPERIENCE IN OUR TWIN CITY, WAŁBRZYCH: Monday, September 26, at 10:15am in the Beaton Institute, CBU. Information session for summer school in our twin city Wałbrzych, Poland. Members of the community are welcome as there is a component where some funding is available to the CB Polish community to help prepare the students for their time in Poland.
NOTE: Monday 1:00pm, Café gathering at Polish Village Hall. No charge. Students from Whitney Pier Memorial Middle School will present their wycinanki Polish paper art. We’ll have a chance to share recipes and acknowledge the family of Delores Starzomski for the wonderful contribution that is allowing the Cape Breton Regional Library to put into circulation all of the recommended titles for NS Polish Heritage Month. The gathering will be about 90 minutes. It would be wonderful if you could make it.

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for your continued support in the midst of this terrible human suffering. Our parish’s contributions now total more than $28,000. Special envelopes are at the back of the church. Or you can contribute via our CanadaHelps page. In previous weeks’ bulletins, we had a more detailed description of how our support is helping displaced people directly on the ground with basic aid
FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.
OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be How businesses have been honouring Polish Heritage Month, with Scott Morrison from Flavor Restaurants – each of their locations is offering a Polish dish this month!
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. ECUMENICAL SERVICE: An ecumenical service was held at the historic St. George’s Church in memory of Queen Elizabeth II. Our parish was represented. And at the request of Rev. Carolyn Sharpe, the presider, the Polish version of William Wordsworth’s poem “Splendour in the Grass" was read. The Polish title is Wiosenna Bujność Traw
CAPE BRETON POST ARTICLE: This past Wednesday in the Cape Breton Post, there was a column of Polish Heritage Month’s theme of hospitality and on featured artist the late Johnny Paruch. The article can be found on-line. It is called “Rekindling the Johnny Paruch School of Hospitality.’
LITERARY CHALLENGE: As described by Consul General Wisniewski when he visited us on Sept. 11. The poem / ballad we’ll be learning is Adam Mickiewicz’s famous Powrόt Taty. More next week!
