OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
MATKA BOSKA ZIELNA: Next Sunday, August 14. The Feast Day of the Assumption of Mary is also called Matka Boska Zielna (Our Lady of the Herbs) in the Polish tradition. Fresh produce, flowers, and herbs are blessed on this day. Next Sunday, please bring some fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, or flowers to place in baskets that will be in front of the altar. As in previous years, the produce will be donated to Loaves and Fishes. Some of the produce from our parish food garden will also be placed in the baskets. (In many parts of rural Poland, some of the blessed flowers and herbs are taken home to place near a doorway as a symbol of our prayers for the home and for everyone who lives there.)
A QUESTION FOR FELLOW PARISHIONERS: The calendar for September – NS Polish Heritage Month – is taking shape nicely. The first day of the month, however, is a solemn, prayerful day. September 1 is the anniversary of the invasion of Poland and the start of World War II. It’s a day when many people of Polish heritage pray for peace and an end to hatred and atrocities. So... if even a few of us are available at sunrise on September 1, we could organize a short, simple prayer gathering at the parish grotto and release doves. Would that be of interest to you? Thanks for any feedback or conversation after Mass.
FAREWELL BARBECUE FOR FATHER DENNIS: Sunday, August 21, 12 noon to 2:00pm, St. Theresa’s Parish Hall. Our parish will be contributing to this. Everyone is warmly welcomed.
UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for your continued support in the midst of this terrible human suffering. Our parish’s contributions now total more than $27,500. Special envelopes are at the back of the church. Or you can contribute via our CanadaHelps page. In previous weeks’ bulletins, we had a more detailed description of how our support is helping displaced people directly on the ground with basic aid
FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.
OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be Beautiful old Polish hymns, with a focus on “Kiedy Ranne Wstają Zorze”, with guest Jean Annette White who will sing a verse! Many thanks to Bobby MacLean of Aggressive Metal Fabricators (who is working with us on the Twin City Pocket Park), August sponsor of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.
COLLECTION FOR JULY 31: $505.00. Many thanks, everyone, for your kindness and generosity!
THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt): https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!
FEAST DAY OF BLESSED PAULINA BOROWIK – one of the 11 martyrs of Nowogrόdek, Poland. She courageously begged the Nazi occupiers to stop the massacres and offered to replace the prisoners that the occupiers had taken. Paulina was killed in August 1943. She was 37 years old. Blessed Paulina, pray for us
