OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
THANK YOU for your prayers for James Clarke, who is receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this week. He has been preparing. James, his mother, Edyta Bączyk, and Ursula Melski are travelling to visit with Fr. Rich Philiposki for the Confirmation.
DZIĘKUJEMY! A NOTE OF THANKS to everyone who took part in our Thursday Zoom session on Ukrainian refugee assistance. We had about 50 people present. We had an uplifting presentation by students at Ignacy Paderewski Secondary School in our sister city of Wałbrzych. Our parish has been financially supporting Wałbrzych to help care for 4,000 refugees in their city – in addition to our parish’s support for Caritas and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. (With donation cheques that have just come in as this bulletin is being written and will be tallied on Sunday, we are likely to surpass the $20,000 contribution mark this weekend by our parish for Ukrainian humanitarian assistance. We are getting the funds out quickly after donations come in.) We recorded Thursday’s Zoom session. If you would like the video sent to you as an attachment, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca. God bless you for your solidarity and support. And since this is Easter Sunday in the Eastern rite and Orthodox churches, we especially unite in our prayer with all of our brothers and sisters.
FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall.
PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation.
WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: “One Minute Polish Broadcast” airs on the Coast Radio every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7), and is archived at coastalradio.ca. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! We’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. This coming week's radio segment features “Dom” – the Polish word for house. Thank you to Bernie Paruch for lending his voice to this segment! This segment is dedicated to the memory of Lewis and Ronald Pocius from Jerry Pocius.
COLLECTION FOR APRIL 17: Information to be included in next Sunday's bulletin. Thank you very kindly for your support of our parish. Bόg zapłaƈ!
THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt): https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!
LOOKING TOWARD MAY: We are looking at doing our in-person May 3rd celebration for Polish Constitution Day / Feast Day of Mary, Queen of Poland a little later in the month – on Sunday, May 29 – Polish café after Mass in the Polish Village Hall, with folk songs, some trivia, and more. We will also show plans for some important renovations that will soon be happening at the Polish Village Hall and invite input on the cultural elements for those improvements. This is also the Sunday closest to Polish Mother’s Day.
MEETING: The Board of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society will meet this evening at 7:00pm by Zoom. Society members who are not on the Board are always welcome to be at Board meetings. For a Zoom link, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca.
RADA MEETING: Monday at 7:00pm in Sala 1050.
POLISH FOLK NAPKINS: As next Sunday is the Sunday before the Polish May 3rd holiday (which is also the Feast Day of Our Lady Queen of Poland), the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society will have packages of the very unique Polish folk napkins for sale (table at the back of the church) as a small fund-raiser.
