OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
SZCZĘŚLIWEGO NOWEGO ROKU! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Wishing you health and happiness. Praying for a good year … God bless you!
PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS: Dear Fellow Parishioners and Friends: Thank you, sincerely, for the goodwill and kindness that have been so much in evidence in our parish to keep everyone safe during the pandemic, and to assist and accommodate others. A reminder of the current capacity restrictions: maximum 50 persons in the building, including not more than 40 in the main part of the church (25 percent of legal capacity). Choir and congregational singing are also on hold at this time. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.
BLESSING OF CHALK AND CHALKING OF THE DOOR – POLISH CUSTOM FOR THE FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY: After the Feast of the Epiphany, we write the following above, or on, one of our doors at home, in chalk: K+M+B 2022. These are the Polish initials of the names assigned to the wise men. The inscription symbolizes that, like the wise men, we will go out of our way to follow Christ and show hospitality and generosity. Sometimes, the initials C+M+B are used. These stand for the Latin “Christus mansionem benedicat” or “May Christ bless this house.” Father Dennis will bless the chalk at Mass and then we can take blessed chalk home to make the inscription.
ALTAR SOCIETY DESIGNATED VOLUNTEERS FOR JANUARY: Marilyn Gillis, Joe Gillis
A NOTE OF THANKS to Jerry Pocius for copying and distributing this week’s bulletin.
PARISH ON-LINE (ZOOM) GATHERING TO MARK THE END OF THE CHRISTMAS SEASON: Sunday, January 16, at 7:00pm: This will be in place of the Opłatek potluck in light of the public health situation. Similar to last year, we’ll do a pop-up “Jasełka” (Polish folk pageant). We would love to give you a role and one line in Polish. We’ll help with pronunciation. Absolutely no experience required! There will be no prior rehearsal, though you can practice your individual line if you wish. We can also record the pronunciation for you and e-mail it to you so that you can listen to it. We’ll just have fun with it and enjoy each other’s company. Also, if anyone would like to sing a Polish carol or play an instrument, that would be great. Please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 902-563-1226.
A REQUEST FOR NON-PERISHABLE ITEMS: We would be very grateful if you could bring a non-perishable food item or personal-care item (eg. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church. There will be a box at the entrance. These items will help to stock our Food Cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall and also assist Loaves and Fishes.
FOOD CUPBOARD AT POLISH VILLAGE HALL: Thank you for your help. The sign on the Cupboard says “Take what you need, leave what you don’t, give what you can. Thank you!” The Cupboard was put up in the spring of 2020 – almost two years ago -- by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, working with carpenter (and fellow parishioner) Adam McCormick and Sixty Minute Signs. The Food Cupboard had very good support from the community, including weekly from our parish.
RECRUITING VOLUNTEER ANNOUNCERS AND SPONSORS FOR THE POLISH RADIO SEGMENTS ON THE COAST: You do not need to know Polish. The segments are pre-recorded and we work off scripts. With regard to sponsorships, they are $100 for a whole week and all proceeds support the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. The segments run weekdays at 3:50 and 7:50pm. We are very grateful for the support.
WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: The Coast Radio: Every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7). It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. This is a great way for us to bring forward members of our community, as well as promote and share Polish language and culture in our region. Our radio theme for this coming week will be Polish customs for the Feast of the Epiphany. Guest will be Dr. Bob Lewandowski. This week’s episode is dedicated in appreciation of the support of John and Deanie Morykot.
PLEASE NOTE: The weeks after mid-January are open for the radio segment sponsors! We would be so grateful to anyone who can sponsor a week for $100

If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt): https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!
These are the words to a beautiful Polish carol about the wise men. The kolęda talks about the fact that Jesus has no throne and wields no spectre. It even says that the prophecy about Jesus’s death for our sins is already spreading throughout the world.
Życzymy błogosławionego tygodnia / Wishing you a blessed week!
