OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRAYERS ARE EXTENDED to the families of all the deceased in the tragic missile strike of the Ukrainian Airlines airplane in Tehran. Let us pray for a peaceful resolution of all conflicts and for paths of dialogue.
PARISH OPŁATEK POTLUCK: Moved to next Sunday, January 19, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, Polish Village Hall. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge, but if you can please bring a dish and a non-perishable item for Loaves and Fishes. We will exchange the traditional Polish Christmas wafer, enjoy fellowship and kolędy to mark the end of the Christmas season, reflect on the year ahead, and extend blessings to each other. It is a longstanding Polish custom for parishes to hold Oplatek gatherings in January as a continuation of faithful community connection and hospitality.
“JASEŁKA” – MINI POLISH CHRISTMAS PAGEANT: Thanks so much to everyone involved. It’s been a lot of fun. Looking forward to presenting it at the Opłatek potluck next Sunday afternoon (January 19)
REGRETS FROM Fr. RICH / USING THE BLESSED CHALK IN OUR HOME: Unfortunately, due to weather disruptions, Fr. Rich Philiposki could not come to Cape Breton this weekend, which means he will not be able to do the blessing of homes.(Fr. Rich’s next anticipated visit is the Easter Święconka Brunch.) We are asked to use the chalk that we received after the blessing last Sunday to do our own home blessing. Please see the back of the koledy/carols insert for a prayer that can be used as you bless/inscribe your own home. The inscription is “K+M+B 2020.” This signifies that just like the wise men in Matthew’s Gospel, we are ready to make a significant commitment in following Jesus Christ and the Gospel message. .
TAKING DOWN CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS: We would be so grateful for any help tomorrow (Monday) at 9:30am. Thanks to anyone who can spare an hour and a half or so. Please meet right in the main part of the church.

ITEM FOR LOAVES AND FISHES: We would be so grateful to anyone who can bring a non-perishable item(s) for Loaves and Fishes to the Oplatek potluck next Sunday afternoon

CHURCHES AND SOCIAL JUSTICE (KAIROS): working together to address needs in our community and world, inspired by the Gospel message. Gathering in our church (potluck) will take place on Monday, January 20, at 6:30pm in our Sala 1050. People from various area churches will be together. Everyone is welcome. At this gathering, author Silver Donald Cameron will be our guest. We will discuss churches and protecting God’s creation/the environment, as well as the role of churches in assisting isolated seniors
TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM ACTS OF THE APOSTLES: Peter proceeded to speak to those gathered in the house of Cornelius, saying: “In truth, I see that God shows no partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him. You know the word that he sent to the Israelites as he proclaimed peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all, what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.”
"In worship, we learn to reject what should not be worshiped: the god of money, the god of consumerism, the god of pleasure, the god of success, the god of self ” --A message on Twitter from Pope Francis

HOME BLESSING PRAYER:
Here is a suggested prayer. It can be done together with members of your household or with a friend/visitor or fellow parishioner.
W imię Ojca i Syna, i Ducha Świętego ...
One person: After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the territory of Judea during the rule of King Herod, magi came from the east to Jerusalem. They asked, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east, and we’ve come to honour him.” (Matthew 2:1-2)
All: So we, too, honour you, Jesus. May our home be a place where your peace shines like a star
One: They entered the house and saw the child with Mary his mother. Falling to their knees, they honoured him. Then they opened their treasure chests and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
All: So we, too, offer you the gift of our lives.
One: God, bless this home; may it be a place of welcome.
All: May we welcome every guest as we welcome you.
One: God, bless this home; fill it with love.
All: Grant us compassion and patience. Teach us to forgive.
One: God, bless this home; fill it with hope.
All: Help encourage one another in our work and our worship.
One: God, bless this home; and help us share our blessing with others.
All: Give us the generosity of the Magi.
Use a piece of chalk to mark on your doorframe: K+M+B 2020
One: May God bless this house and all who enter here. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen.
All: Ojcze Nasz/Our Father….
A kolęda (carol) is sung. Please see recent bulletin inserts for words to various Polish carols
