POP-UP MUSEUM -- “SEARCHING FOR POLISH CAPE BRETON”: Please mark in your calendar Tuesday, December 3, at the Polish Village Hall. This is a friendly invitation to everyone to think about items that you might like to bring in (eg. old documents, artifacts). Photos and albums are also of great interest. A “pop-up museum” is basically a participatory event – one of the purposes is to help each other “fill in blanks” and better understand/interpret the documents and artifacts. We will take photos of all the items for archiving in the Beaton Institute, and staff of the Beaton Institute will be on hand to discuss ways to permanently preserve items. The pop-up museum will be co-hosted by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society and the CBU Tompkins Institute.

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY / WNIEBOWZIĘCIE NAJŚWIĘTSZEJ MARYI PANNY (AUGUST 15): This is an important Catholic holiday in many countries, and is widely celebrated by people of Polish and Croatian descent, among others. It is also the main national holiday of the Acadian people (Notre Dame de l’Assomption). The Church teaches that "having completed the course of her earthly life, [Mary] was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory." On August 15, 2004, St. John Paul II gave a sermon in Lourdes in which he reaffirmed this belief.
TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM HEBREWS 11:1-2, 8-12: Brothers and sisters: Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. Because of it the ancients were well attested. By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; he went out, not knowing where he was to go. By faith he sojourned in the promised land as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs of the same promise; for he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and maker is God. By faith he received power to generate, even though he was past the normal age —and Sarah herself was sterile—for he thought that the one who had made the promise was trustworthy. So it was that there came forth from one man, himself as good as dead, descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sands on the seashore.
“The way of Jesus, which leads to peace, passes through forgiveness, for one evil never corrects another evil and no resentment is ever good for the heart” --A recent message from Pope Francis on Twitter
