There will be opportunities to share or show some of your records. We’d like to invite everyone to think about records you might have that you would like to either show or contribute to the Beaton Institute in order to preserve, for future generations, the memories and legacies of Cape Breton’s Polish community.

ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY UPDATE: The Society zarząd has authorized completion of the downstairs kitchenette. The Society will be working with local students (with input from Walbrzych students) to transform a small, vacant lot of land it owns (corner of Victoria Road and Franklin St., where the old fountain was) into a small park honouring our new Polish sister city (Wałbrzych). This will proceed over time and will require funding applications and some fund-raising. The Society will be holding occasional Polish cafes for knowledge/tradition sharing. The Society has applied for funding for renewable energy/sustainability work for the Polish Village Hall.

DONOR WALL UPDATE: This has been a longer than anticipated process as we had to go to a second supplier.  The final product is in development but is still a couple of months away. In the meantime, as of tomorrow and as a temporary measure, we will place a donors’ binder in the library to recognize the generous and much-appreciated contributions. Thank you for your kind patience.

POLISH LANGUAGE LESSONS: The Polish Embassy has offered some funding to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society for language instruction. We can use this for tutorials, a short course, or a workshop (language day) at a beginner or advanced-beginner level. We can customize this based on interest. To express interest or give some feedback, please speak with Tom Urbaniak (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca; 902-563-1226).

Presents the final lecture of the season:
Topic:
“I have my mission. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connexion between persons.”   (Blessed John Henry Newman)
Some thoughts from an Irish missionary priest who has experienced being a link in God’s chain.

Brief bio of the speaker -- Seán Coyle:
Fr Seán Coyle is a member of the Missionary Society of St Columban (Columban Fathers).
He was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1943, and ordained in 1967.

From 2002 until 2017 he was also the editor of the Columban magazine MISYONonline.com
Seán now lives at St Columban’s, Dalgan Park, Navan, Ireland in a large community that consists mainly of retired and infirm Columban priests.
