RECENT IN MEMORY OF ("IMO") CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:

DZIĘKUJEMY: Thank you for last week’s contributions to Loaves and Fishes! These have been delivered. Our future monthly food collections will be shared between our Community Kitchen Project and Loaves and Fishes

COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT UPDATE: Lunchtime meals – free or donate what you can – to start September 26, 11:30am to 1:00pm in our church. This service will be offered every Wednesday thereafter. We will have a volunteer food handling course here on Monday, September 17, from 6 to 9pm.(Please note time change). All are welcome. There will be a “dry run” for volunteers on Wednesday, September 19, at 11:30am. We recently put out a call for anyone wishing to consider sponsoring one week (for $250) or a contribution of any amount. Donation cheques, gratefully received, can be made payable to “Whitney Pier Polish Kitchen Society”. If you would like a charitable tax receipt, cheques can be made to St. Mary’s Polish Parish – but on the memo line please indicate that it’s intended for the Community Kitchen Project. MONUMENT UNVEILING HONOURING POLISH IMMIGRANTS AT PIER 21 TODAY (SEPT 16): Our parish is playing an active role – folk singing, emceeing. Official ceremony at 11:00am outside in front of Pier 21. Lunch inside at 12 noon and artistic program at 1:00pm. The unveiling coincides with the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. The inscription on the monument in Polish, English, and French says: “A stone from Poland in honour of emigrants from Polish lands who contributed to the creation and development of Canada, which in return offered them shelter and new prospects.”

LAUNCH OF THE ATLANTIC CANADA DISTRICT OF THE CANADIAN POLISH CONGRESS: to be headquartered in Sydney. Sunday, September 30:-Mass followed by lunch, cake to mark St. Michael’s Day and the 109th anniversary of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, “Polish Walk” of Whitney Pier, Workshop entitled "Polonia in Partnership” at 1:30pm at Polish Village Hall downstairs, business meeting to launch the district (to conclude at approximately 3:15 p.m.)

DOŻYNKI POLISH HARVEST FESTIVAL: Sunday, October 14th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Polish Village Hall. We will have Polish food, a small Polish market, dance and folk song demonstrations, and more! This will also be a way to mark our 105th anniversary together with the broader community, which has been very kind to us.

MATKA BOSKA BOLESNA – Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows – Sept 15: The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows – also called Our Lady of Compassion – grew in popularity as of the 12th century. It’s an opportunity for us all to show compassion with all who are suffering, just as Mary felt the pain of her son’s death.“Queen of Martyrs, let me join you in your sorrow, and grant me your own deep, trusting faith in the word of your Son. Let me trust that even in suffering, even when all seems lost, with Jesus there is always a way out. Obtain for me too, a sincere sorrow for all my sins, a burning love for my God, and a tender devotion to you.”
