OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
FATHER RICH REPORTS:
Dear Parishioners & Friends:
Chrystus Zmartwychwstal!
Christ is Risen! I first want to thank all who contributed to making Holy Week and Easter a beautiful experience here at St. Mary’s. To those who helped with decorations, flowers, choir singers, organist, altar servers, ushers, extra ordinary ministers of Holy Communion, preparing Easter baskets, and all who generously contributed to the Easter flowers, and Easter offerings for the parish. May the Risen Lord shower His graces on you all! I also want to thank those who remembered me with cards, gifts and food. This Second Sunday of Easter is the Feast of Divine Mercy established by St. John Paul II in April, 1999 when he canonized Saint Faustina Kowalska in Rome. We concluded the nine day novena to Divine Mercy this Saturday, and today after Mass I will expose the Blessed Sacrament for adoration until the 4:00pm Mass. We will chant the chaplet in English and Polish after today’s 10:00am Mass. We welcome this Sunday to our 4:00pm Mass, members of Council 1060 Knights of Columbus. The Mass will be offered for deceased members, especially those who more recently passed away. There will be a reception in Sala 1050 after the Mass. This week there will be no Masses on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is the Feast of St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr. We have his statue that we brought back from Poland on the high altar. Please remember to come to the Royal Tea at the Polish Village Hall (12 to 2:00pm) that will benefit the St. Michael Polish Benefit Society. Next Sunday we will have our “Swieconka” Easter brunch after the 10:00am Mass. Have a blessed week!

IN MEMORY OF (IMO) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:
TODAY! ROYAL AFTERNOON TEA at 12 noon (to 2:00pm) Tickets are $15. This is a fun, traditional high tea! This year’s tea will help complete renovations to the Polish Village Hall. There are still some tickets remaining. Tom Urbaniak will have them after Mass. Thanks to everyone who contributed sandwiches and sweets for today’s Royal Afternoon Tea. It’s really appreciated!
Niedziela Miłosierdzia Bożego / A Note on Divine Mercy Sunday :“Jesus said to Sr. Faustina one day: `Humanity will never find peace until it turns with trust to Divine Mercy.’ Divine Mercy! This is the Easter gift that the Church receives from the risen Christ and offers to humanity.”- St. John Paul II
Sister Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) was canonized in 2000, and John Paul II officially designated the Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday in the General Roman Calendar, an important moment of Grace and Devotion reflecting what was communicated to Sister Faustina. Divine Mercy Sunday is also the day after the end of the Novena of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, which begins on Good Friday. Its closing prayer is: “Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.”
ST. MARIA FAUSTYNA KOWALSKA (1905-1938): A Polish nun, visionary, and mystic, St. Faustina (Faustyna) recounted powerful spiritual dialogues with Jesus, including conversations about the Divine Mercy devotion. She also directed the painting of the first Divine Mercy image. She at first had trouble getting accepted into a convent because she could not pay her own way. But she quickly demonstrated her extraordinary work ethic and piety. By 1930, many of her meditations were focused on the Divine Mercy. Before she died, St. Faustina predicted the horrors of war that were to occur. The Divine Mercy devotion became an inspiration to the oppressed Poles in their occupied country, and the devotion began to spread around the world. After the war, the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Mercy was formed to carry on St. Faustina’s work and her example of deep faith

The hall has recently gone through some major improvements. Thanks for your help in promoting the hall as a hub for the community. Please speak with any member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society or call 902-564-8494
OUR BEAUTIFUL ALTAR/RECENT PAINTING OF THE LAST SUPPER: Jeff Wilson (artist, educator, and parishioner) recently painted The Last Supper on our high altar. Maura McKeough (cultural resources manager with Parks Canada) did gold gilding. These generous and skilled volunteers did an exceptional job, and we are very grateful! Bóg zapłać! Maura also advised us on the extensive restoration of the altar in 2016. This historic altar is a special gift from Wisla, Manitoba. Dennis and Diane Yanchycki drove it cross-country. They have become very good friends of our parish.
“Let us thank the Lord for his love, which is stronger than death and sin. It is revealed and put into practice as mercy in our daily lives, and prompts every person in turn to have "mercy" towards the Crucified One. Is not loving God and loving one's neighbour and even one's "enemies", after Jesus' example, the programme of life of every baptized person and of the whole Church?" St. John Paul II, homily on Divine Mercy Sunday, 2001
