Uroczystość Najświętszego Ciała i Krwi Chrystusa / Corpus Christi

Uroczystość Najświętszego Ciała i Krwi Pańskiej / Corpus Christi: The whole Church marks Corpus Christi, emphasizing the joy of the institution of the Eucharist. In Poland, it has special significance as a major religious and public holiday. The first Corpus Christi procession was held in 1320 in Krakow, and colourful processions with the Blessed Sacrament and various temporary altars are now held in every city and town in the country. These are public manifestations of faith. During times of occupation and later during the Communist period, the faithful sometimes took great personal risks to participate in Boże Ciało ceremonies.

“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name. Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
May 29: Maksymilian, Maria, Magdalena
May 30: Feliks, Joanna
May 31: Aniela, Teodor
June 1: Konrad, Piotr
June 2: Karina, Maria, Stefan
June 3: Augusta, Lidia
June 4: Dominik, Maria
June 5: Emil, Maria

POP-UP POLISH TUTORIALS ON RADIO:
We’re doing weekly Polish pop-up tutorials on CKJM Radio (FM 97.5 in Sydney, 106.1 in Chéticamp). The segment is called “Capsule polonaise.” It airs Thursdays or Fridays at 3:30 p.m. and is produced jointly by the station, our parish, and CBU. It’s in French (CKJM is a francophone station) with Polish vocabulary. We would like to invite French speakers in our parish to be part of this show – to help explain some of our Polish traditions. We have short rehearsals before the show, and the actual recording is done over the telephone (via conference call). If you’re interested, please contact Edyta at 304-4757 or Tom at 902-563-1226.

Podlewać – to water
Kopać – to dig
Narzędzia ogrodnicze – garden tools
