OGLOSZENIA/ANNOUNCEMENTS
August 15: The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven (Wniebowzięcie Najświętszej Maryi Panny)
This is an important Catholic holiday in many countries, and is widely celebrated by people of Polish and Croatian descent, among others. It is also the main national holiday of the Acadian people (Notre Dame de l’Assomption).
The Church teaches that "having completed the course of her earthly life, [Mary] was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory." On August 15, 2004, Blessed Pope John Paul II gave a sermon in Lourdes in which he reaffirmed the importance of this belief.
In many places, fruits and herbs are blessed on this feast day.
MASS INTENTION FOR TODAY (Sunday, Aug. 12)
Today’s Mass intention is in memory of Colin MacCormack.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him.
Wieczny odpoczynek racz Mu dać Panie, a Światłość Wiekuista niechaj Mu świeci na wieki wieków AMEN.
CONGRATULATIONS to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church for the splendid centenary celebrations last week. God bless and best wishes! З найкращими побажаннями! (Z naĭkrashchīmī pobazhanni͡amī!)
IMPORTANT NOTE ON PARISH COMMITTEES
Volunteers are being sought to serve on the following committees:
-Finance Committee (temporary/interim basis, until a proposed special meeting of parishioners on September 16 when elections will be organized).
-Ad hoc Committee on Parish Statutes and Policies. Over the next few weeks, this committee will be asked to review committee structures, terms of office, terms of reference, reporting protocols, etc, and present a proposal to the parish for consideration. Nominations for various offices will then take place under the new statutes.
If you would be interested in serving, please advise Marjorie Ardelli (Parish Planning Team member) by noon this Wednesday. Tel./fax 794-2910; sheep@syd.eastlink.ca. Thank you, everyone, for your hard work and dedication!
POLISH FESTIVAL AT OUR PARISH
Everyone is cordially invited to spend the day here on Sunday, September 9. Events will begin with Mass at our usual time (9:30 a.m) and will include tours, various games and activities, cultural performances by the Pogoria and Pomorze groups, and, of course, Polish food. Special thanks to festival chair Shari McKay and all the hard-working volunteers. Thank you as well to Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation for support under its “Festivals and Events” program.
Please spread the word to others.
Dziękujemy!
VIGIL CANDLE
The Vigil Candle for the weeks beginning August 6th and August 13th will be in memory of Fred & Nora Baker offered by Richard and Jean White.

Second Reading: Ephesians 4: 31 – 5: 2
Gospel: John 6: 48-51
Feast Day, Aug. 14
St. Maksymilian Kolbe (1894-1941) was a Polish priest active in the Catholic media and in missionary and charitable work.
Interned in the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp, he insisted on replacing a condemned prisoner who was being sent to his death in the starvation bunker.
Father Kolbe was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 10, 1982. Franciszek Gajowniczek, the condemned prisoner whose life Father Kolbe had saved, was present for the canonization.
TRANSLATION of ONE OF OUR OFTEN-SUNG POLISH HYMNS: Zdrowaś Maryjo, Bogarodzico
1. Zdrowaś Maryjo, Bogarodzico! * Błagamy Ciebie, święta Dziewico: * Niech łaska Twoja zawsze nam sprzyja, * módl się za nami, Zdrowaś Maryja!
2. Wśród czystych duchów, w obliczu Pana, * Tyś przenajświętsza, niepokalana, * jak pośród kwiatów wonna lilija, * jak wśród gwiazd zorza, Zdrowaś Maryja!
3. Ty, coś karmiła świata Zbawienie, * Ty nam, jak Matka, daj pożywienie, * niech brak żywności nas nie zabija, * broń nas od głodu, Zdrowaś Maryja!
1. Hail Mary, Mother of God! * We beg you, holy Virgin: * Let Your grace be always favourable to us, * Pray for us, O Hail Mary!
2. Among the pure spirits, in the face of the Lord, * Thou art the Most Holy, Immaculate, * as in the midst of fragrant lily flowers, * as the northern star, O Hail Mary!
3. You, who fed the world Salvation, * As a mother, give us nourishment, * may the lack of food not conquer us, * Defend us from hunger, O Hail Mary!
