“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name. Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
October 5: Częstogniew, Donata, Igor, Justyn, Konstancjusz
October 6: Artur, Bronisław, Bronisz, Emil, Roman
October 7: Justyna, Marek, Maria, Rościsława, Stefan

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
ST. FAUSTINA KOWALSKA (FEAST DAY: OCTOBER 5): A Polish nun, visionary, and mystic (1905-1938), St. Faustina (Faustyna) recounted powerful spiritual dialogues with Jesus, including conversations about the Divine Mercy devotion. She also directed the painting of the first Divine Mercy image. She first had trouble gaining acceptance into a convent because she could not pay her own way. But she quickly distinguished herself with an extraordinary work ethic and piety. By 1930, many of her meditations were focused on the Divine Mercy. Before her death, St. Faustina predicted the horrors of war that were to occur. The Divine Mercy devotion became an inspiration to the oppressed Poles in their occupied country, and the devotion began to spread around the world. After the war, the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Mercy was formed to carry on St. Faustina’s work and her example of deep faith.

OCTOBER -- MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY
Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI remarked: “The Rosary, when it is prayed in an authentic way, not mechanically and superficially but profoundly, brings peace and reconciliation.”
At our church, we pray the Rosary together every Wednesday before the 4 p.m. Mass. Everyone is welcome.
In keeping with this message, our opening hymn today will be Zawitaj Królowo Różańca Świętego. The first verse is as follows:
Zawitaj Królowo różańca świętego, Jedyna nadziejo człowieka grzesznego! Zawitaj bez zmazy, Lilijo! Matko różańcowa, Maryjo |
Greetings, Queen of the Holy Rosary The one hope for sinners! Greetings, o pristine one. Mother of the Rosary, Mary |

Wrzesień/September 2014
Szanowni Państwo / Dear Friends:
RE: SPONSORING BUNDLES OF SHINGLES FOR THE NEW ROOF
St. Mary’s Polish Parish is in the middle of a major fund-raising campaign so that we can complete a much-needed new roof in the very near future. Total costs will be approximately $40,000.
We are proud to be stewards not only of a beautiful historic landmark (a protected heritage property, with a rare designation from the Province of Nova Scotia) but a vibrant and welcoming place of faith with a special sense of community and distinctive customs that we are blessed to share with everyone.
As one of our fund-raising efforts, we are inviting parishioners and friends of the parish to sponsor bundles of shingles at $25 per bundle. If you wish, you can sponsor the bundles in memory of a loved one. Names of sponsors (and IMO names, if applicable) will be listed on a permanent plaque in the church.
Please feel free to use the Roof Fund envelopes, which can be deposited into the Sunday collection or mailed to the parish. Charitable tax receipts will be provided (at the same time as general collection tax receipts, in February or early March).
Thank you kindly for any support you can give to this important collective effort. May God bless you and your families.
Bóg zapłać! ------ Rada Duszpasterska (Parish Council) of St. Mary’s Polish Church
