“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
February 16: Bernard, Dan, Danuta, Julianna
February 17: Donata, Franciszek, Julian, Konstanty, Łukasz, Niegomir, Zbigniew, Zbyszko
February 18: Albert, Alberta, Krystiana, Więcesława, Zuzanna

UPDATE ON PLANNING FOR LEARNING BASIC POLISH IN A FUN, RECREATIONAL SETTING: As we continue to plan for spring language sessions, anyone who would like to be part of an informal lunch tomorrow with Amber Buchanan at Governor’s at 12 noon please speak with Tom Urbaniak. Amber, a young leader in the Gaelic revitalization movement, has pioneered new, effective, and easy-to-use/adapt teaching-and- learning techniques in the Gaelic community – techniques that are drawing the interest of other language communities.  As she put it in an interview, “I started this for my daughter and for my whole community. I believe that connecting with our ancestors by honouring our language will give us great strength and peace in our hearts and souls.”

CAPE BRETON POLISH TARTAN UPDATE: We should have a revised proposal, based on the earlier feedback, to show you next Sunday for your consideration. A challenge has been brightening the white, as a number of parishioners recommended, which cannot be pure white on an actual tartan. So designer Deana Lloy will give a sample of “white tartan wool,” which will be at the back of the church next Sunday.

BLESSED STEFAN WINCENTY FRELICHOWSKI – Patron of Polish Scouts (Feast day: February 22)
Blessed Stefan was active in the harcerstwo (scouting) movement from his youth. As a priest, he became the scouting chaplain for the Pomerania district. Shortly after the Nazi forces occupied his city in 1939, Father Stefan was arrested and sent to hard labour and torture in several concentration camps -- Stutthof, Grenzdorf, Sachsenhausen and Dachau, where he died in 1945 at the age of 32. Father Stefan was beatified in 1999 by Blessed Pope John Paul II. Please see the prayer for the intercession of Blessed Stefan in the bulletin insert.

PRAYER FOR THE INTERCESSION OF BLESSED STEFAN WINCENTY FRELICHOWSKI :
Wszechmogący i miłosierny Boże, Ty nam dajesz pasterzy według serca swego, uzdalniając ich do ofiarnej miłości na wzór Jezusa Chrystusa, Dobrego Pasterza. Napełniony taką miłością, Ksiądz Stefan Wincenty Frelichowski uczestnik cierpień Chrystusowych, poniósł męczeńską śmierć w służbie braciom, którzy doznali ogromu krzywd, bólu i opuszczenia. Amen

Almighty and merciful God, you give us shepherds of the heart. You enable them to love others selflessly, just as Jesus the Good Shepherd loved us.  Filled with such love, Father Stefan Vincent Frelichowski experienced the sufferings of Christ. He was martyred in the service of others, who suffered enormous harm, pain and abandonment. The valley of evil was not feared, but good courageously triumphed over evil.  O Lord, through the intercession of Blessed Stefan Wincenty, grant me the graces ........  that I humbly request.  May this heroic witness to pastoral charity soon accede to the glory of the Saints. One God forever and ever. Amen.

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE ANNOUNCES THE THEME FOR THIS YEAR’S SHARE LENT CAMPAIGN: As a member of Caritas International, the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (www.devp.org) will be basing this year’s Share Lent campaign on “One Human Family – Food for All.” The following is the prayer for this year’s campaign: O God, you entrusted to us the fruits of all creation so that we might care for the Earth and be nourished with its bounty. You sent us your Son to share our very flesh and blood and to teach us your Law of Love. Through His death and resurrection, we have been formed into one human family. Jesus showed great concern for those who had no food – even transforming five loaves and two fish into a banquet that served five thousand and many more. We come before you, O God, conscious of our faults and failures, but full of hope, to share food with all members in this global family. Through your wisdom, inspire leaders of government and of business, as well as all the world’s citizens, to find just, and charitable solutions to end hunger by assuring that all people enjoy the right to food. Thus we pray, O God, that when we present ourselves for Divine Judgment, we can proclaim ourselves as “One Human Family” with “Food for All.” AMEN.

THE RENOVATED AND REFURBISHED POLISH VILLAGE HALL is a comfortable, well appointed, modernized venue for events large and small. Please consider renting the hall for your events. Please call 564-8494.
