OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
CHANGE IN WEDNESDAY MASS TIME FOR THE WINTER MONTHS: 4 p.m.: Our Wednesday evening Mass is at 4 p.m. Novena to Our Lady of Czestochowa follows as usual. Father Paul has effected this change out of consideration for people who may find it difficult to drive in the dark, especially in inclement winter conditions.
ST. MARY’S POLISH PARISH EASTER BREAKFAST (ŚWIĘCONKA BREAKFAST) : Sun., April 7, after Mass today in the traditional Polish style. At the time of printing, some additional tickets ($6 each) were still available from Toni LaRusic.
INPUT ON 100th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS: At this morning’s breakfast, at each table there will be a sheet with a few questions for feedback on upcoming parish centenary activities. We would be grateful if you could take a few moments to discuss these with people at your tables and write some brief point-form responses. All responses will be shared with and discussed by the Rada (Pastoral Council). Dziękujemy!
FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY: This afternoon at 3pm, Holy Redeemer Parish, Whitney Pier, will be hosting a Divine Mercy celebration. The choir of St. Mary’s Polish Parish will be present to sing. (In 2014, the Feast of Divine Mercy celebration will be back at St. Mary’s Polish Church, with subsequent alternating between Holy Redeemer and St. Mary’s Polish Church). Everyone is welcome.
OUR CUSTOMS RESONATE : For the past two years, with the help of St. Mary’s Polish Parish’s guide to a traditional Polish Easter basket, Jim and Sandi Redmond, who live in Truro but feel a special connection with our parish (and receive periodic e-mail updates), have presented Jim’s mother, Anne (Tynski) Redmond, with a basket, blessed by Father Dariusz Miskowicz of Immaculate Conception Parish, Truro. CARPET REMOVAL “PARTY” AT THE POLISH VILLAGE HALL – Can you spare an hour or two next Saturday (April 13) at 10 A.M? As the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society continues with hall renovations, it is appealing for some volunteers next Saturday to help out with removing the downstairs carpets (which will soon be replaced as part of a much-anticipated “refresh”). CENTENARY ART EXHIBIT: Next week in the bulletin there will be a call for artists from our community, creating in all genres -- with religious and Polish themes -- for a special exhibit and reception on July 25-26 in the Polish Village Hall.
WHITNEY PIER YOUTH CLUB is holding a community celebration this Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. to receive a $40,000 grant from the RBC Community Foundation. The group Black & Grey (Membertou emerging artists) will perform. Congratulations to everyone at the WPYC!
23rd Annual Auction in support of the Community Homeless Shelter – Fri., April 12, 2013, at Our Lady of Fatima Church Hall, Kings Rd. Sydney. Viewing: 6:30pm. Auction starts at 7:00 pm. Auctioneer – Alfie MacLeod; 19 years of age and older. Admission $10 – pizza and beverage included.

Niedziela Miłosierdzia Bożego / Today is Divine Mercy Sunday: “Jesus said to Sr. Faustina one day: `Humanity will never find peace until it turns with trust to Divine Mercy.’ Divine Mercy! This is the Easter gift that the Church receives from the risen Christ and offers to humanity.”--Blessed Pope John Paul II, April 22, 2001
Sister Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) was canonized in 2000, and the Holy Father officially designated the Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday in the General Roman Calendar, an important moment of Grace and Devotion reflecting what was communicated to Sister Faustina. Divine Mercy Sunday is also the day after the conclusion of the Novena of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, which begins on Good Friday. Its closing prayer is: “Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.”
ST. MARIA FAUSTYNA KOWALSKA (1905-1938): A Polish nun, visionary, and mystic, St. Faustina (Faustyna) recounted powerful spiritual dialogues with Jesus, including conversations about the Divine Mercy devotion. She also directed the painting of the first Divine Mercy image. She initially had trouble gaining acceptance into a convent because she could not pay her own way. But she quickly distinguished herself with an extraordinary work ethic and piety. By 1930, many of her meditations were focused on the Divine Mercy. Before her death, St. Faustina predicted the horrors of war that were to occur. The Divine Mercy devotion became an inspiration to the oppressed Poles in their occupied country, and the devotion began to spread around the world. After the war, the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Mercy was formed to carry on St. Faustina’s work and her example of deep faith.

1. The Centenary Mass on Sunday, September 8, will of course be the highlight. But a banquet/reception on September 7 and the Festival on September 8 are also anticipated. What kind of entertainment and activities would you like to see? (eg. types of music/performers, religious and cultural features, activities for children, etc.). Any suggestions are welcomed …
2. What keepsakes related to our parish (special things that people can purchase or receive for free when they attend on September 7-8) would you like to see?
3. Various anniversary-related activities have been discussed in recent bulletins and on-line (www.stmaryspolishparish.ca), such as the Family Reunions (Aug. 2-5).
