“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
October 2: Teofil
October 3: Gerard, Józefa, Teresa
October 4: Edwin, Franciszek, Konrad, Rozalia
October 5: Donata, Igor, Justyn
October 6: Artur, Emil, Roman
October 7: Justyna, Marek, Maria, Rościsława, Stefan, Mirella
October 8: Bryda, Brygida, Marcin
October 9: Bogdan, Jan, Ludwik

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FATHER RICH REPORTS:
Niech Bedzie Pochwalony Jezus Chrystus! !

Today’s Liturgy of the Word scripture readings concern faith. In the first Old Testament reading (the prophet Habakuk) writes that “the righteous live by their faith.” Jesus talks about the ability of faith to move mountains! I think we can also look at the local context at what happened out of the ashes of the fire that destroyed our church two years ago. It was faith and determination that brought about the miracle of “Odnowa” Rebirth or renaissance of the parish! Jesus also encourages us to be faithful to whatever our duties are in life. When we perform even our daily routine obligations we are fulfilling God’s will.

OCTOBER THE MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY
The beautiful fall month of October is when the feast of Our Lady Queen of the Holy Rosary falls (October 7th). It is a custom in Poland and many other predominantly Catholic countries to have daily October rosary devotions. Here at St. Mary’s, the rosary will be prayed beginning about 6:10 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. On Sunday after Mass we will pray two decades (one in Polish and in English) as a parish family for various intentions.

PREP CLASSES TO BEGIN LATER THIS MONTH
Last Sunday all 12 forms for PREP registration of children were taken home and a few more were requested. If anyone was not present last Sunday, the PREP registration forms are also available today on the tables. As we anticipate to be able to begin use of the hall (less kitchen and restrooms) later this month, we will begin the classes after the 10 a.m. Mass. We are still looking for another volunteer catechist to help with the classes. Please contact me.

MASS INTENTIONS
The Mass intention book is now kept at the glebe office however the book will be taken to the sacristy when we have Mass in church. We will have many dates now open on weekdays and especially more beginning in November when we add additional weekday and one more Sunday Mass. The customary stipend fee is $10 for a Mass intention. Please remember the living and the dead when requesting the offering of holy mass!

FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH MORNING MASS
This past Saturday we had our first time First Saturday Mass with over 25 people present, but with only 2 parishioners. Every First Saturday of the month there will be confessions (from 8 a.m.), communal praying of the rosary, Holy Mass followed by the Litany to the Blessed Virgin Mary. A social with coffee, tea and sweets will follow in Sala 1050. A freewill offering will be taken up at this Mass as it serves people mainly from outside of the parish that will go into our rebuilding or building fund.

OUR HERITAGE PILGRIMAGE TOUR 2017
I am presently obtaining quotes from airlines and a tour operator for either a 14 to 15 day tour next summer that would also include two days in Ukraine (former Polish lands) where many of our parish pioneer immigrants originated. We will schedule an informational meeting when all figures are in.

ADDITIONAL SPONSORSHIP OF ITEMS FROM POLAND
I want to thank Sophie (Jockemeck) Neville who offered to sponsor the new altar cloth from Poland. Jeff Wilson (husband of Krista |Starzomski) is working on repairing the minor damage done to the two statues. When completed, we will bless and place them on the high altar.

CONFESSION (Sacrament of Penance) will be heard daily beginning 30 minutes before Mass and concluding 10 minutes before Mass begins.

NEW SCHEDULE OF HOLY MASS:
(effective Sunday, November 6th)
LORD’S DAY/SUNDAY
10:00 a.m. (English & Polish)
4:00 p.m (English)
WEEKDAYS
Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 6:30 pm
Tuesday & Thursday: 8:30 a.m.
First Saturday of the month: 8:30 a.m.

LUNCH AFTER MASS TODAY: Lunch will be in the Polish Village Hall. Everyone is welcome. If you brought an item for Loaves and Fishes, please leave it at the entrance to the hall. Many thanks!  During lunch, we will also have a short rebuilding update and cut a special cake for St. Michael’s Day. We will also have a quick Polish language “pop-up tutorial” (words for Thanksgiving). Right after the social, still in the hall, there will be a short gathering for anyone interested in helping do an outline/work plan for what will happen at our DOZYNKI (Polish Harvest Festival) on Sunday, October 30.

SPECIAL GUEST FROM CROATIA: This Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Please join us in the church. Dr. Naila Ceribašić is a folklorist and ethnomusicologist (Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research, Zagreb) who has studied Croatian communities around the world. She will be joining us in the church for a conversation about how we can help keep Croatian cultural traditions alive and vibrant in Cape Breton. For generations, Croatian Cape Bretoners have contributed a great deal to our parish.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: The Whitney Pier project is well underway. Our parish has been a supporter of this project, along with other local faith communities. Volunteer crew leaders are needed. If you have experience in any trade and are interested in helping even for a few days over the next few months, please contact Adrian Wilson at NSCC: 902-563-2450; adrian.wilson@nscc.ca

FUND-RAISING FOR COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION: To complete Phase 2, we will still need to raise about $78,000. This includes several fall events, appeals for corporate and organizational sponsorships, and individual donations. Phase 2 rebuilding envelopes are at the back of the church.

ŚWIĘTY MICHAŁ ARCHANIOŁ, MÓDL SIĘ ZA NAMI! St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us. (Feast day Sept 29): St. Michael the Archangel has several important roles. He is the leader of Heaven’s triumph over hell. He intercedes to redeem souls at the hour of death. He weighs virtue on a perfectly balanced scale. He is a guardian of the Church. St. Michael is the patron saint of, among others: people who are ill or dying, paramedics, radiologists, danger at sea, mariners, artists, bankers, police officers, soldiers, and security guards – and of course our St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. He is often depicted confronting a serpent. In another famous image, he is seen with Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
