“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
September 11: Feliks, Jacek, Jan
September 12: Amadeusz, Maria, Piotr
September 13: Aleksander, Eugenia, Filip
September 14: Bernard, Cyprian, Roksana
September 15: Maria, Nikodem
September 16: Cyprian, Edyta, Eugenia, Franciszek, Kamila, Wiktor
September 17: Drogosław, Franciszek, Justyn, Justyna, Teodora

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FEAST OF THE NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – SEPTEMBER 8 – FEAST DAY OF OUR PARISH:On September 8, 1913, the Szelak family transferred Lots 118 and 121 to the “Catholic Episcopal Corporation of Antigonish, Trustee for St. Mary’s Polish Church.” Construction began immediately. Appropriately, this happened on the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is the formal Polish name of our parish (Parafia p.w. Narodzenia Najświętszej Maryi Panny).  The Church has celebrated Mary’s birth since the sixth century, if not earlier. “Impart to your servants, we pray, O Lord, the gift of heavenly grace, that the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin may bring deeper peace to those for whom the birth of her Son was the dawning of salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”

WITAMY KSIĘDZA RYSZARDA! WELCOME TO OUR PASTOR, FATHER RICH PHILIPOSKI! We welcome Father Rich back to Cape Breton. We are praying for him, just as he has been praying for us. Father Rich brings extensive pastoral, community development, and cultural experience. He has ministered to communities of Polish heritage, and other communities, across North America, including a previous term in Cape Breton. Father Rich is a member of the Society of Christ Fathers (Chrystusowcy), which has done a lot of work to nurture the faith and service of Polish communities outside Poland. Even from afar, Father Rich has been a great friend of the parish for many years. Sincerest thanks to everyone who was part of the discussions to make Father Rich’s appointment possible. We will have lunch after Mass on the Parish lawn to welcome Father Rich. Everyone is welcome! Zapraszamy!

GUEST BOOK: If you are visiting our church, please accept our warmest welcome! Please sign our guest book on the back table.

PHASE 2 OF OUR CONSTRUCTION: This is now starting! The first increment will include mechanical and electrical, ceiling, lighting, and drywall. The goal is to do enough work to get a basic occupancy permit for “Sala 1050” (back section) as soon as possible, and then work on the next steps (like the kitchen) following more fund-raising. This first increment should take 3-4 weeks.

FUND-RAISING FOR COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION: To complete Phase 2, we will still need to raise about $85,000. This will include several fall events, appeals for corporate and organizational sponsorships, and individual donations. Phase 2 rebuilding envelopes are at the back of the church.

IN MEMORIAM / BUILDING FUND ENVELOPES are at the back of the church. Many thanks for your support.

RECENT "IMO"' (IN MEMORY OF) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE (RE-)BUILDING FUND:
IMO Veronica Malinowski from Yvonne Pelite
IMO parents, daughter Lydia, brothers, sisters from Mary & Walter Clarke
IMO all deceased fellow parishioners (on our parish feast day) from Tom Urbaniak & Alison Etter

UPCOMING EVENTS: Please note in your calendar the following to support our rebuilding: Dożynki Polish Harvest Festival -- Sunday, October 30; Pre-Christmas bazaar: Saturday, November 19. Dinner theatre and St. Nicholas/concert dates will be announced soon.

DONORS’ PLAQUES: We are going to give a little more time to solicit Phase 2 donors before finalizing the donors’ plaques for the church, which will be displayed permanently. We are so grateful for all the generous donations that have come in to date! Thanks for sharing postcards, rebuilding envelopes, and encouragement with others.

POLISH CLASSES: Registration information to be ready soon!

WEEKLY RADIO “CAPSULE” ON POLISH LANGUAGE/CULTURE – CKJM Radio (explanations are in French): If you would like to help out with it, please call 902-563-1226

SPECIAL PRAYERS: Today is the 15th anniversary of “September 11th”. We pray for a world free of violence and hatred.

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING: Beloved: I am grateful to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me trustworthy in appointing me to the ministry. I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and arrogant, but I have been mercifully treated because I acted out of ignorance in my unbelief.
Indeed, the grace of our Lord has been abundant, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.  Of these I am the foremost. But for that reason I was mercifully treated, so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example for those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life. To the king of ages, incorruptible, invisible, the only God, honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.
