“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
September 6: Albin, Beata, Eugenia, Eugeniusz, Michał
September 7: Domasława, Domisława, Marek, Regina, Rena, Ryszard
September 8: Adrian, Adrianna, Maria, Radosław, Radosława, Klementyna
September 9: Augustyna, Aureliusz, Piotr
September 10: Aldona, Łukasz, Mikołaj
September 11: Feliks, Jacek, Jan, Naczesław
September 12: Amadeusz, Maria, Piotr, Sylwin

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW SECTION OF THE MASS IN POLISH:
Father Paul will say in Polish “The peace of the Lord be with you always,” which is as follows: Pokój Pański niech zawsze będzie z wami …
We reply “I  z duchem Twoim” (“And with your spirit.”) – the same response we often already use.
When we exchange the sign of peace with each other, we can say Pokój (pok—ooy) or Pokój Chrystusa (Pok-ooy / Hrist-oo-sa) – meaning “Peace” or “Peace of Christ”

Uroczystość Narodzenia Najświętszej Maryi Panny : FEAST OF THE NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – SEPTEMBER 8 – FEAST DAY OF OUR PARISH: On September 8, 1913, the Szelak family transferred Lots 118 and 121 to the “Catholic Episcopal Corporation of Antigonish, Trustee for St. Mary’s Polish Church.” Construction began immediately. Appropriately, this happened on the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is the formal Polish name of our parish (Parafia p.w. Narodzenia Najświętszej Maryi Panny).  The Church has celebrated Mary’s birth since the sixth century, if not earlier. “Impart to your servants, we pray, O Lord, the gift of heavenly grace, that the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin may bring deeper peace to those for whom the birth of her Son was the dawning of salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”

TODAY AFTER MASS -- TO MARK THE 102nd ANNIVERSARY OF OUR PARISH -- LUNCH, REBUILDING UPDATE, VIEWING OF THE BEAUTIFUL NEW FOLK ART IN THE POLISH VILLAGE HALL: If you brought an item for Loaves and Fishes today – thank you. Please leave it at the main entrance to the hall during lunch.

A NOTE ON THE NEW HALL ART/DECORATIONS: The hall has been decorated with cafe curtains from Poland and 14 colourful panels bracing its windows: a modern version of the famous painted village Zalepie in Poland. Thanks to all who donated and helped bringing this two-year project to term. Zapraszamy! – Genevieve Wawrzyszyn

SCRAPBOOKS OF OUR PARISH – A REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL MATERIAL: Vicki Aucoin and Wayne Joseph have put together beautiful and detailed scrapbooks of the life of our parish from 2011 to 2015. They are looking for additional material – eg. photos of first communions, any records or photos you have about events, mementos, etc. These scrapbooks are for posterity – and will be a great permanent record of parish life!

CONCERT OF CHOIRS - MAJOR FUND-RAISER FOR OUR REBUILDING: Evening of Sunday, October 25, 7 p.m. United Heritage Church, downtown Sydney. Thanks to our friends at United Heritage Church for making their sanctuary available at no charge. This concert will be a big project for our rebuilding.

A PRAYER FOR REFUGEES:
Almighty and merciful God, whose Son became a refugee and had no place to call his own; look with mercy on those who today are fleeing from danger,
homeless and hungry. Bless those who work to bring them relief; inspire generosity and compassion in all our hearts; and guide the nations of the world towards that day
when all will rejoice in your Kingdom of justice and of peace.
