“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
August 23: Filip, Laurenty
August 24: Jerzy, Joanna, Malina, Michalina
August 25: Grzegorz, Luiza, Michał
August 26: Joanna, Konstanty, Maksym, Maria
August 27: Cezary, Józef, Monika, Małgorzata, Teodor
August 28: Adelina, Aleksander, Aleksy, Augustyn, Patrycja
August 29: Gita, Jan, Sabina
August 30: Miron, Rebeka, Róża

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW SECTION OF THE MASS IN POLISH:
Father Paul will say in Polish “The peace of the Lord be with you always,” which is as follows: Pokój Pański niech zawsze będzie z wami …
We reply “I  z duchem Twoim” (“And with your spirit.”) – the same response we often already use.
When we exchange the sign of peace with each other, we can say Pokój (pok—ooy) or Pokój Chrystusa (Pok-ooy / Hrist-oo-sa) – meaning “Peace” or “Peace of Christ”

AUGUST 26: FEAST OF OUR LADY OF CZĘSTOCHOWA: A NOTE ON THE JASNA GÓRA MONESTARY AND OUR LADY OF CZĘSTOCHOWA: The monastery was established in 1392 by Pauline monks from Hungary and has been Poland’s most famous place of pilgrimage for centuries. “Jasna Góra” literally means “Luminous Mount.” The original icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa is present here. On June 4, 1979, on his first visit back to his home country, St. John Paul II remarked: “The Poles are accustomed to link with this place, this shrine, the many happenings of their lives: the various joyful or sad moments, especially the solemn, decisive moments, the occasions of responsibility, such as the choice of the direction for one's life, the choice of one's vocation, the birth of one's children, the final school examinations, and so many other occasions. They are accustomed to come with their problems to Jasna Góra to speak of them with their heavenly Mother, who not only has her image here, one of the best known and most venerated pictures of her in the world, but is specially present here.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE, FOR ALL YOU DID TO MAKE LAST WEEK'S BLESSING OF OUR CHURCH CONSTRUCTION SITE SO SPECIAL: There is a lot of hard work ahead of us, but our faith, community spirit, dedication and determination are truly a great blessing. Bóg zapłać! We are also blessed to have received so much friendship and support from the broader community.

A NOTE ON EXTERIOR COLOUR FOR OUR REBUILT CHURCH: Rada representatives met recently with Jean Brown (professional colour consultant) and shared the options that seem to be getting the most support at this point from fellow parishioners. Ms. Brown liked the options but recommended the tinge of a third colour, some possible tweaks, and also recommended that we get larger siding samples. She had some advice on how to match trim with siding. At our parish lunch in early September we hope to invite Ms. Brown to answer questions, and also to have the larger siding samples on hand. Ultimately, we will make a final decision by a discussion and vote of all parishioners.

FUND-RAISING: We continue to send out letters for our rebuilding capital campaign. These include well-designed, illustrated packages. Please provide suggested names and addresses of recipients to Stephanie Black. Work is also underway for a November gala, Christmas bazaar, Christmas tea, more Polish tartan sales opportunities, flea market, and other fund-raisers.

SCRAPBOOKS OF OUR PARISH – A REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL MATERIAL: Vicki Aucoin and Wayne Joseph have put together beautiful and detailed scrapbooks of the life of our parish from 2011 to 2015. They are looking for additional material – eg. photos of first communions, any records or photos you have about events, mementos, etc. These scrapbooks are for posterity – and will be a great permanent record of parish life!

FUND-RAISING FLEA MARKET: St. Mary’s Polish Parish will be holding a fundraiser Flea Market on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 from 9 am – noon.   Anyone wishing to book a table ($10 each), please contact Toni LaRusic (902-562-1901).  For those wishing to drop off items for the flea market, information will be available at a later date.

“POLSKA” CAPS: Mike Morykot has some sample Polska caps and has recommended we get some in bulk for a rebuilding fund-raiser! Please see Mike to look at the samples.

SACRED OBJECTS: Thank you very much to Marjorie Ardelli and Carolyn Kiley for preparing an inventory on the sacred objects and art donated or pledged to date. We’re very grateful for the kindness of other faith communities.

RECENT IMO (IN MEMORY OF) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:
These will be acknowledged in next week’s bulletin.

CONCERT OF CHOIRS - MAJOR FUND-RAISER FOR OUR REBUILDING: Evening of Sunday, October 25, 7 p.m. United Heritage Church, downtown Sydney. Thanks to our friends at United Heritage Church for making their sanctuary available at no charge. This concert will be a big project for our rebuilding.
