“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
March 15: Klemens, Krzysztof, Ludwika
March 16: Henryka, Herbert, Izabela
March 17: Gertruda, Jan, Patryk
March 18: Aleksander, Boguchwał, Cyryl, Edward
March 19: Bogdan, Józef
March 20: Aleksander, Aleksandra, Bogusław, Klaudia
March 21: Benedykt, Lubomira, Mikołaj
March 22: Bogusław, Katarzyna, Kazimierz, Paweł

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

CZWARTA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU / FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT – LAETARE SUNDAY: The Latin word means “to rejoice,” and comes from the traditional Introit at the Mass, “O be joyful Jerusalem.” Rose-coloured vestments are often worn on this Sunday, which follows the mid-point of Lent. This particular Sunday sometimes sees a relaxation of the rigours of Lent. So, flowers may be placed on the altar to indicate hope that Easter is within sight. It was once called the “Sunday of the five loaves,” after the miracle of Jesus’ feeding of the multitude, which is reported in all four canonical Gospels. Raduj się, Jerozolimo, zbierzcie się wszyscy, którzy ją kochacie. Cieszcie się, wy, którzy byliście smutni, weselcie się i nasycajcie u źródła waszej pociechy.  Rejoice, O Jerusalem: and come together all you that love her: rejoice with joy, you that have been in sorrow: that you may exult, and be filled with consolation.

LUNCH AFTER MASS TODAY IN THE POLISH VILLAGE HALL – REBUILDING UPDATE AND INPUT – Architect Gary Hanley will join us. Everyone is welcome.

NEXT SUNDAY AFTER MASS: We would like to ask those who signed up for the Sacred Objects and Art Working Group to meet for a short time in the O’Connell House, next to the church site. Thank you to everyone who signed up for the other working groups (fund-raising and outreach). We will be convening these two other groups for their first meeting on Sunday, March 29.

AN UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENING FOR THE CHOIR OF ST. MARY’S POLISH CHURCH: THE CAPE BRETON CHORDSMEN have invited our choir to perform with them at their Gospel Concert on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the Highland Arts Theatre (former St. Andrew’s in downtown Sydney). Tickets are $20 each – and are available from the choir.

INVITATION TO OUR PARISH TO PREPARE A CHAPTER FOR AN UPCOMING BOOK: Ron Caplan, publisher of Breton Books, is compiling/editing a second edition of the book Cape Breton’s Christmas. He has invited our parish to prepare a section on Polish Christmas customs – including anecdotes and memories. If you would like to help with the work on this, or if you think there are particular stories that should be reflected, please speak with any member of the Rada.  Ron would like to have our submission by July.
