“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
February 8: Jan, Paweł, Piotr, Sebastian
February 9: Bernard, Eryk, Eryka
February 10: Gabriel, Jacek, Elwira
February 11: Lucjan, Maria, Olgierd, Świętomira

Today is the First Annual International Day of Prayer in the Effort to End Human Trafficking. Pope Francis has made this terrible suffering of so many of our fellow human beings an important theme in his pontificate. The following statement is from the Polish Conference of Catholic Bishops:  “Według szacunków Międzynarodowej Organizacji Pracy na świecie jest 21 mln ofiar handlu ludźmi. Od początku swego pontyfikatu Papież Franciszek wzywa do eliminacji tego haniebnego zjawiska. Kierując się jego wezwaniami i wspierani przez niego, zakonnice i zakonnicy wyszli z inicjatywą Dnia, który w tym roku odbędzie się pod hasłem „Zapalić światło przeciwko handlowi ludźmi”.

YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE: “[I]n the name of all the faithful of our country, I thank all of those who today are living the consecrated life so generously and joyfully. You are an inspiration and a help to us in following Our Lord.  “Just as Mary and Joseph, Anna and Simeon, recognized the saving presence of God in Jesus when he was presented in the Temple, so too our eyes are opened and we too marvel when we recognize in you his countenance and presence among us.” -Archbishop Paul-Andre Durocher, President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops
Representatives of our parish are scheduled to meet this weekend in Halifax with federal Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney, who wishes to make a personal donation to our rebuilding.

REBUILDING FUND CONTRIBUTIONS: Building Fund envelopeswere lost in the fire but rebuilding envelopes were printed and distributed with the Christmas Eve bulletin and at the Oplatek. Building Fund contributions will go toward the new church.
