“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
January 18: Krystyna, Małgorzata, Piotr
January 19: Andrzej, Bernard, Erwin, Henryk, Mariusz, Marta Sara
January 20: Dobiegniew, Fabian, Sebastian
January 21: Agnieszka, Marcela
January 22: Anastazy, Dobromysł, Dorian, Marta, Wincenty
January 23: Jan, Maria
January 24: Felicja, Mirogniew, Rafaela, Rafał, Tymoteusz

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

SUBMISSION TO THE COUNCIL OF PRIESTS -- REBUILDING: This past week, the Rada made a positive, detailed written submission to the Council of Priests about our parish and our rebuilding process. The report included support we are receiving from around the world, information about the parish, our strong faith, our many activities, and our financial health. We made clear that we are not seeking a grant from the diocese. The rebuilt church will be paid for by replacement insurance (on which we were paying premiums), supplemented by fund-raising. We shared information about the special-purpose trust on our property (making it a legally unique property in the diocese) and our earlier legal opinion about that. Also, Nova Scotia Culture Minister Tony Ince had written to state that the heritage designation on the property is being maintained in recognition of Polish Nova Scotians (this will help to ensure a design that is culturally appropriate and inspired by the previous church). Also included were architect Gary Hanley’s preliminary concept drawings (accessible, up-to-code, all-on-one level, etc), which incorporated parishioners’ input from when Mr. Hanley shared drafts at our parish Oplatek supper. Thank you so much to the whole parish for all your hard work! God willing, and with the intercession of Our Blessed Mother, our rebuilding is in sight…

St. Mary’s Polish Parish regular collection envelopes for 2015 were available December 14th at the Polish Village Hall. Unclaimed envelopes are at the back of Holy Redeemer this morning.  If you or your family do not currently have envelopes, but would like to, please speak with Shauna McKay (902-539-4354).

REBUILDING FUND CONTRIBUTIONS: Building Fund envelopeswere lost in the fire but rebuilding envelopes were printed and distributed with the Christmas Eve bulletin and at the Oplatek. Building Fund contributions will go toward the new church. To contribute to the rebuilding if you do not have an envelope, you can also write on your regular envelope or cheque “Designated to the Rebuilding of St. Mary’s Polish Church.”

Beautiful colour images of our historic church at Christmastime (with thanks to Christa Porter and Adam) are being sold for $5 as a fund-raiser for rebuilding. Please see the table at the back.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROJECT: Our parish continues to work with other faith communities on this project. We are nearing completion of “The Pier” boardgame. For a sponsorship of $100, you can have your name or your organization’s name along the side of the board. Please speak with Tom Urbaniak.

TRIVIA QUESTIONS FOR “THE PIER” BOARD GAME: A number of parishioners had submitted trivia questions about our parish, but these were unfortunately in a file in the church at the time of the fire. We would like to invite parishioners to resubmit (or submit anew). Please bring any trivia questions to Mass next week.

CAPE BRETON POLISH TARTAN ORDERS (proceeds to our parish) continue to be fulfilled. There is an order form on our website: www.stmaryspolishparish.ca . Orders will generally take a few weeks to complete.

YOU ARE INVITED TO JOE MACKENZIE’S DIACONATE ORDINATION to be held January 28 at 2 p.m. at St. Theresa Parish.

Bereavement Program offered by Hospice Palliative Care needs volunteers in the Cape Breton county area - training is provided, hours are flexible and you work from the comfort of your home. For more information, call Allan MacDonald 567-8137

Światowy Dzień Migranta i Uchodźcy/Today is World Day of Migrants and Refugees: Many members of our parish are related to migrants or refugees, or are immigrants themselves. The following is excerpted from Pope Francis’s recent message: Dear migrants and refugees! You have a special place in the heart of the Church, and you help her to enlarge her heart and to manifest her motherhood towards the entire human family. Do not lose your faith and hope! Let us think of the Holy Family during the flight in Egypt: Just as the maternal heart of the Blessed Virgin and the kind heart of Saint Joseph kept alive the confidence that God would never abandon them, so in you may the same hope in the Lord never be wanting. I entrust you to their protection and I cordially impart to all of you my Apostolic Blessing.

Modlitwa Jana Pawła II o jedność/Prayer of St. John Paul II for Christian Unity: In the following, the Holy Father prayed that the shepherds of all Christian churches may be more effective examples of Christ’s Gospel. He prayed that through the intervention of the Holy Spirit and through a loving commitment to all humanity, we may achieve a long-desired unity: Drodzy Bracia i Siostry, zapraszam was do gorącej modlitwy o pełne zjednoczenie naszych Kościołów. Błagajmy Pana, aby usunął przeszkody, które opóźniają drogę ku pełnej jedności. Błagajmy Go, aby tym wszystkim, którzy współpracują dla osiągnięciazbliżenia, udzielił swego Ducha Świętego, który by ich doprowadził do całej prawdy, obdarzył ich miłością i uczynił cierpliwymi w dążeniu do jedności. Błagając Go, abyśmy my, pasterze siostrzanych Kościołów stali się lepszymi narzędziami Jego planu, my, których Opatrzność wybrała w tej godzinie historii, abyśmy kierowali tymi Kościołami, abyśmy służyli zgodnie z wolą Pana i w ten sposób służyli jednemu Kościołowi, który jest Jego Ciałem.

THE RENOVATED AND REFURBISHED POLISH VILLAGE HALL is a comfortable, well appointed, modernized venue for events large and small. Please consider renting the hall for your events. Please call 564-8494.

Communion: Zróbcie mu miejsce [Make Him a Place]
Post-Communion: Do Twej dążym kaplicy [I Will Make it to Your Chapel]
Closing: Liczę na Ciebie Ojcze [Father, I Place My Faith in You]

OUR OPENING HYMN: Ojcze z niebios, Boże Panie
Ojcze z niebios, Boże Panie,
Tu na ziemię ześlij nam
Twoje święte zmiłowanie,
Tu na ziemię ześlij nam.

Boże wielki, my w pokorze
do Twych stóp garniemy się,
Wola Twoja wszystko może,
Ty nad nami zmiłuj się.

A przez Syna Twego mękę
Ulżyj ludzkiej doli złej,
Każdą życia skróć udrękę,
Boże wielki, zlituj się.

OUR OFFERTORY HYMN: Pobłogosław Jezu Drogi
Pobłogosław Jezu Drogi
Tym, co serce Twe kochają
Niechaj skarb ten cenny, drogi
Na wiek wieków posiadają.

Za Twe łaski dziękujemy,
Które serce Twoje dało;
W dani dusze Ci niesiemy,
By nas serce Twe kochało.

Trzykroć święte serce Boga,
Tobie śpiewa niebo całe,
Ciebie wielbi Matka droga,
Tobie lud Twój składa chwałę.

Nie opuszczaj nas, o Panie!
Odpuść grzesznym liczne winy,
Daj nam w serce Twe goranie
Błogosławieństw zdrój jedyny

OUR COMMUNION HYMN: Zróbcie mu miejsce
Zróbcie mu miejsce, Pan idzie z nieba,
Pod przymiotami ukryty chleba.
Zagrody nasze widzieć przychodzi,
I jak się Jego dzieciom powodzi.
Otocz Go wkoło, rzeszo wybrana.
Przed twoim Bogiem zginaj kolana!
Pieśń chwały Jego śpiewaj z weselem
On twoim Ojcem, On Przyjacielem!
Nie dosyć było to dla człowieka,
Że na ołtarzu co dzień go czeka.

OUR POST-COMMUNION HYMN: Do Twej dążym kaplicy
Do Twej dążym kaplicy,
Co z brzegu czeka nas,
Wśród wichru nawałnicy,
W pochmurny, słotny czas,
Byśmy tam wciąż dążyli
I nigdy nie zbłądzili,
Mario, Mario, o Mario świeć.

Jak cudnie w zmierzchu cieni
Twój obraz sercu lśni,
Nad nim Twój promień drży,
O Jutrznio powstająca,
O Gwiazdo z chmur świecąca,
Mario, Mario, o Mario świeć.

Na wiośle żeglarz wsparty,
Z ócz sączy łzę po łzie,
W Tobie ma port otwarty,
W tęsknicy wzywa Cię,
Gdy wiatr bałwany wzdymie,
Niech zgłuchną na Twe imię,
Mario, Mario, o Mario świeć.

OUR CLOSING HYMN: Liczę na Ciebie Ojcze
Zbyt dobrze wiem kim jestem
Pyłkiem i liściem na wietrze
I wiem Kim jesteś Ty Wielki Boże
Więc wołam w dzień i w noc
